I'm fairly new here but created an account to hopefully get some answers. I am a college student and I happen to have a friend with a heart condition and another friend with a lung condition who is curious if cannabis would be helpful or harmful to their body considering their condition. Ive tried doing some basic "google research" but it's not really getting me anywhere.

One of my friends suffer from trachycardia and atrial arrhythmias. I'm not exactly sure completely what that all means, but from her explanation she seems to have a faster heart rate than normal. I'm sure you see my scare when it comes to smoking with her. Obviously vaporizing would best, but would smoking or vaporizing be potentially harmful or hopefully helpful?

I probably should make another thread but let's kill 2 birds with one stone. I have another friend who is also a female that was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when she was an infant. Not going to get into a whole lot of details but its a lung disease that causes an excess build up of mucas in the lungs with no known cure at all. Smoking is obviously out of the question, but is there possibly any benefits from vaporizing or even consuming edibles?

  2. I was born with congenital heart disease but its basically a defect in my heart walls. I been smoking every day for years... my heart doctor knows and he says nothing really. I know he would tell me if I was harming my body badly. Marijuana isn't gonna do much with a heart condition in my opinion. Lungs I don't know... I had a collapsed lung and it hurt like hell to smoke weed until it healed up.

  3. I have an implanted pacemaker and the second time I ever got high was two weeks after surgery haha! But no you're friend will be fine to smoke with the heart condition as green only directly affects the brain. I also have a friend of CF and he was desperate to try it, so although I never let him smoke he seemed fine using a vape but I'd prefer to give him an edible.

But yeah I had atrial flutter and sick sinus syndrome and although green can make my heart race, I know it's actually my brain causing my heart to race fro thinking holy shit I'm high. Compared to other unspeakables which can directly affect heart rate.

  4. i've had open heart surgery and had heart and lung conditions (though nothing as bad as CF) since i was a wee baby. I find pot actually improves my lung function, like i can ride my bike up big hills where usually i'd get out of breath really quickly. although i'm no doctor.

  5. Uh..weed affects other things besides your brain.
You have cannabinoid receptors in other parts of your body.
And marijuana is known to accelerate peoples heart rate thats why theres a higher risk of a heart attackn in those who smoke(whilist smoking).

  6. Haha where else in your body do you have cannabinoid receptors? And it affects people's heart rate due to the brain activity. Me for example,I live in England so we roll tobacco in he joints and when I smoke a joint the tobacco causes my heart to go funny where as if I rip a couple of bongs, it feels the exact same. However when I get really super duper high, y'know when everything lags a little bit, I can freak myself out and get kind of anxious which then causes my heart rate to speed up, but no it does not DIRECTLY affect the heart.

show your references...we will wait here <crickets>.....<don't hold your breath people>

    thought so...you are clueless. :bongin:

  8. smoking anything can cause you troubles (coughing), so edibles or lightly vaping would be best imho.

like I said, you are fucking clueless...

trans-dermal absorption...it gets into your blood, makes it to the brain, a slow steady drug delivery method employed for centuries...

  11. Really bro...with this kind of stuff, it's better to talk about it with your doctor who actually knows your condition and the medical science behind it...rather than an Internet forum populated by anonymous stoners.

  12. I agree to an extant but doest hurt to have the opinions of those who been there, my best friend got heart issues and a few years ago suffered a stroke and heart attack, the weed helps him feel better physically and mentally because his medicines make him not himself, but when he doesnt smoke he stresses on a level that causes alot of extra unnecessary strain on his heart, his heart attack/stroke was caused by stress/depression

  13. So get professional opinions anyways to be safe

  14. For the friend with heart trouble, only their doctor will know the level of risk. However CBD, the #2 cannabinoid in marijuana is an  anti-arrhythmic. New strains of high CBD cannabis are becoming more available.

Smoking would not be a good thing with CF, but vaporizing, tinctures and edibles are all options.

  15. I had A-fib two years ago and still sometimes get A-fib...

Let me say I have been smoking for a year every day and don't have problems. One trick my doctor told me was, if anyone is having an irregular heart beat or is going into A-fib simply COUGH. If you cough, it resets the hearts electrical system. It helps me alot!

    Cheers,
    Rick
