Smoking Marinol and Exogenous Lipoid Pneumonia

Discussion in 'Seasoned Marijuana Users' started by coolguy69, May 8, 2016.

  1. So, I'm on probation. I've got a really cool doctor, who prescribed me Marinol so I can still medicate. Marinol is just THC suspended in sesame seed oil. Delta 9 THC specifically. For a little while, I smoked all the time and just pretended to take the marinol in case I got a piss test, as THC is THC and it will show up the same on the cup. I haven't been subjected to a UA test yet since getting the prescription, they don't test me often. I learned that the type of test required to tell the difference between marinol, and weed or dabs, and everything that is in those, has gone down dramatically in cost, and is now something that many probation officers around the country know about. This got me thinking, and I decided to just go ahead and only take my Marinol.
I have had Marinol sometimes throughout the years, and would often pop them open and squeeze the oil out on top of a bowl and smoke it. Obviously I can't do that anymore, and I'm not sure if it's safe anyway. For about a week I was buying relatively inert smoking herbs like Damiana and dripping it on top and smoking it. That worked, but it was incredibly harsh and gross. A friend recently introduced me to Healthstones which is like a lava rock thingy that works like a screen for concentrates, and fits in the bowl of your pipe. I have been using it to great effect. I can drip a drop or two on the stone, hit it with a torch lighter and get what is totally a decent hit and it's very tolerable. The other thing I thought about doing is vaping the oil, perhaps dissolved in PG or ejuice. I was immediately chastised by a friend much smarter than I who explained that I could get ELP or Exogenous Lipoid Pneumonia from vaping oil! I am not sure if I can get that from smoking the oil, but it seems totally possible. I'm rather confused by this as companies like Medipen are becoming extremely prevalent and have straight up coconut oil in the mixture. Maybe certain kinds of oils are okay, I have no idea.
At this point, It looks like my best option is to just eat my marinol, which will work on occasion, but takes quite a lot more than smoking, and takes several hours to kick in and wear off, and at $510 per refill with an already hefty discount of 75% or so(I don't have health insurance this year), isn't really viable for me right now. I've thought about trying to winterize the oil, and get the sesame seed oil out, but when I tried I was unsuccessful. Perhaps I need stronger ethanol, but I have had trouble obtaining anything in the state I live other than isopropyl.
Sorry for the wall of text, but I just figured I would line out my situation, and see if anybody might have any knowledge of this stuff as there is very little research out there that I could easily find about it. Am I being too paranoid? Should I just tough it out, go sober and wait three years before smoking again? Is there a doctor in the house? Any advice, ideas, or thoughts at all would be greatly appreciated!

  2. I would follow your doctor's suggestion, that's pretty cool of him to hook you up like that. No way in hell would I be draining a pill to smoke though. There are things that are meant to be smoked and some things that should be taken orally. Hell, try one as a suppository if you're that desperate...no, really don't.

  3. You're probably right, haha. My doctor's original suggestion, believe it or not, was to use the marinol to mask actual marijuana use! She's a really cool weed friendly doctor, that's why I went to her in the first place :) On the one hand, knowing that they can tell the difference, if they really wanted to take the time and extra money to test for it, makes me want to just eat them once in a while or stay totally sober for the next few years. On the other hand, I like to get stoned! A lot. I'm one of those people that doesn't feel right when I'm not stoned, and three years is such a long time.. I feel like, I went through all the time, trouble and money it took to get hooked up with this doctor and get the prescription, to just stop smoking now seems like a waste :( I guess what i'm hoping for is to find out it's safe to smoke or vape the stuff somehow, or figure out a way to extract the sesame seed oil and make it safe. To be honest, I haven't noticed any adverse effects from smoking it yet, but it would suck really bad to find out the hard way that it's not cool to do. Most of the people I know tell me to just smoke weed and not worry about it, like others with the prescription do, but I have like 6 years jail time hanging over my head if i screw up, and although I doubt they would do something drastic like a major violation for pot use, I would like to be as careful as I reasonably can. Hey, thanks for the reply! Maybe I -will- try one as a suppository ;)
