Smoke getting in my eyes, need help

Discussion in 'Apprentice Marijuana Consumption' started by Ghostdivision, Dec 5, 2009.

  1. Well this is somewhat odd an embarrassing issue. I have been an on and off smoker for some time. Anyway I have been smoking more since I finished my degree this summer. In summer there was a week I smoked a joint with freinds (i dont role, I just use a pipe, they always role) and smoke got in my eyes, for about 2 weeks my inner eye was red and sore.

Wednesday this happened again, i can only think that the person whose vehicle we were in was blasting heat at us and the smoke also went toward me in my eye and face, still it got in my eye again, and yet again i have the redness in my eye now, and will probably have a rough two weeks until it heals.

Is there anything i can do to prevent this or make sure it does not happen while smoking, i dont smoke cigarettes and am not seasoned at smoking joints. All I can think of is maybe im leaning forward when i smoke and it goes up in my eyes, im really curious if there are other things I can do to ensure this does not happen again, its really brutal to deal with.

  2. Are you sure you have not contracted an eye infection which the smoke and heat are irritating?
    Is this only one eye?

Hmmm you may be correct, im still waiting to see an eye specialist but i do believe i have an eye infection in the eye that the smoke is irritating, or the smoke is causing the infection. I believe the eye infection started this summer, and my doctor just gave me some anti bacterial eye ointment until i can get in to see a specialist. I did not decipher if the smoke caused it, or irritated it. All i know is the eye is generally good and clear, but the two incidents of smoke getting in turn it red and sore quickly.

Yes its only my right eye, but thats the eye i noticed the smoke gets in, or maybe i just feel it in that eye and not the other, either way i could tell right when it hit, my right eye, it was very painful.

Either way im still waiting to see a specialist, the eye is usually clear but since the two incidents of smoking getting in, it gets irritated very easily, and all it takes is a little bit, and then its red and painful for a week or two and then it clears up.

I just assumed maybe im not taking precautions or smoking or exhaling properly to prevent this.

I have been smoking regularly since summer with freinds a couple times a week, and this is the first time it happened again in 3 months so i was quite surprised when it happened again.

  4. I should also apologize i just noticed this is a beginers growing forum, not a beginners smoking forum

  5. You could try a protective product such as GenTeal Gell or Celuvisc (these are both rather thick and will temp. mess up your vison) when you smoke. This would be sort of a "band-aid" till you find out what the underlying pathology is.

  6. Two weeks would not be a normal reaction to smoke. Don't mess around with your eyes, see a doctor.

    And yes, wrong forum.

  7. Yeah that sucks man =\\\, use to happen to me with blunts, wata horrid feeling. Stick with your pipe

  8. chances are you're looking down slightly at the same time you're lettinsmoke out.. whether that be a full xhale or just tiny traces because of your lack of seasoning.. just relax and keep your eyes on the road or ahead of you.. dont look down

  9. Just try using eye drops as dumb as it sounds, they actually make your eyes feel great.

  10. Other than whats been said just be aware of the wind direction and your face, blow your hit away in a way that works(upward or something) or just let your friends know (if you aren't alone) that and generally people are willing to make the session good for all. My eyes are also sensitive but more so to light as hot boxing just gives me really red eyes I believe its just reaction to irritation though I can't be sure about for you. Optometrist should be able to diagnose any eye infection btw if you want to knock that option out. Hope something works :confused_2:

Well the good news is its clearing up already.

I do see an eye doctor, i believe i was told i have blepharitis so i have to clean my eyes daily, they are also sensitive and my eye doctor told me last year i have unusally senstive vessels in my eye. This summer when I moved back home i have been waiting to get in and see an eye doctor here, i had being seeing one where i attended school I think putting my drops in made it worse, it just irritated it more, i put no drops in other then refresh tears and its better today, still a bit sore.

Beyond that in the other eye, the one that did not get smoke in, i do have glaucoma, not from natural causes but because blepharitis made my eye red i put in to much of a steroid ointment my dermatologist gave me lots of refills eventually after using it a year, my eye pressure was out of control, my good eye that got smoke in luckely the pressure went down before permanent damage was done, the left that did not get smoke in, was not as lucky.

Thats why im very sensitive about smoke getting in my good eye, because its still the one with great eyesight and helps me function. Marjuiana also usually calms my eyes, does not make them red. Although I have not asked for prescription weed, i was always sketched my doctor would look at me and question my motives. He usually prescribed t3's.

Back to the subject at hand, the person who said im looking down i think is 100 percent right, reflecting on when it happened i was looking down, when i exhaled and it came back into my face. I dont know why i have tendency to look down when i exhale, but im sure thats the reason it got up in my eye.

    Thanks for all the help.

ps-you and your buddies should start smoking blunts

  13. You either have an eye infection that is being irritated only by the smoke or your allergic to it.

  15. When you exhale just close your eyes

  16. yeah you might just have sensitive eyes or you might want to look it up or get it checked out simply because i gues to get joint smoke in my eyes a lot lol and it would only hurt for a couple of minutes.
