Small Grow Ventilation - 400 w HPS/MH

  1. Hey, my friends and I are trying to get a small grow started. The space we are working with is roughly 4.5' x 2.67' x 3' (H x W x D). We are thinking about using a 400 w HPS w/ MH conversion bulb. My question is how should I go about with ventilating the box, should I spend the extra 70 bucks at HTG and get the Euro Air Cooled Reflector and run that (if so, how would I approach this?) If we go with that, would it be better to run an intake/exhaust for the light alone and another intake/exhaust for the box?

Also I'm having troubles determining the strength of the fans I will need. I heard about circulating air 5x min, which would put me at ~180 cfm (36 cu ft x 5). Any help here is appreciated, thanks!

  2. I'm currently working on a 2'x4'x 6'H box with a 400w air cooled light. I'm going with a 6inch 440 CFM fan with a speed controller for the light and a 4.5" 133 CFM fan for fresh air intake /exhaust. I can't tell you if this will work or not since I'm still working on the box. Of course I was high when I came up with this design but it seemed feasible the following day when i was wasn't high.

    Good luck with your design.
