i have a closet that's about 2 feet deep, 6 feet long and about 8 feet high planning on growing 5x northern light auto flower and 5x bubbleicious autoflower i think i should be able to squeeze them into 2.5 gallon pots planning on using about 8x 100w light bulbs for about $160++ 4x 2700K warm https://www.1000bulbs.com/category/500-watt-equal-compact-fluorescents-2700K/ 4x 4100K cool https://www.1000bulbs.com/category/500-watt-equal-compact-fluorescents-4100k/ and i found some sockets online- 8x for 90 dollars http://www.greners.com/i/grow-lights/hoods-reflectors/cords-adaptors/lamp-cord-sun-system-8-with-socket-for-fluorescent-lamps.html and then i was just gonna go fox farm and get some cheap pots but the whole lights and sockets thing seems really expensive (270 for the whole setup) is there any way i can cut down on cost? it seems a bit expensive. is the whole thing feasible? should i cut down on space or plants? is this enough light? comments appreciated =)
you would do better with a real grow light. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Apollo-Horticulture-400-Watt-MH-HPS-Grow-Light-System-Set-Kit-for-Plant-Growing-/191055700117?pt=US_Hydroponics&var=&hash=item2c7bcea095
you are 100% right, thanks for the help i was looking at them and i just decided to f--- it and take the plunge and get a real one i guess ill do a 600W system where you can switch the bulbs between MH and HPS for about 150 saves me a fair bit on the lights. if i am doing auto flowering should i just keep them on HPS the entire time? with the CFL's i wanted to have both wavelength's going on at the same time, but alas it is not possible with a 1 big light setup. is that even a good idea to have both cool and warm wavelengths during the entire cycle? thanks again for all the help fellow growers !
I was gonna say the same...anything over 200 watts or so should just be hps. *and those sockets didn't match
Yes I always recommend bigger lights and they have a dimmer if needed. The 600 is a great light. I would veg under a MH for 4 weeks though and flower autos under 16-18 hours a day. I run a mix of autos and photo plants and flower some my autos in the veg room with a MH. they do great.
1000bulbs.com has a 150 watt hps with shipping to lower 48 for $60...I'd take 2 or 3 of those over the cfl...you'll get around 4500 or 5k lumens x 8 is 40k lumens for cfl...each 159 watt hps is 15k lumen x 3 is 45k...just a thought...I'd use cfl for side lighting or shadow areas Sent from my SPH-L900 using Grasscity Forum mobile app
1000bulbs has incredible customer service. Beats the heck out of Amazon. Me personally? I went with the 200 watt cfl. I'll never go back to hid. But I just grow one plant in a closet.
i decided to go with 1 big 600W one will be ordering today but you are right, thanks for the help in this thread everybody ! will post pictures of the setup later today and keep it updated as a grow blog =)
im glad the CFL's worked out for you. personally the HID systems scared me but i realized that if i wanted 12 square foot space covered it would just be easier to get 1 HID instead of a high wattage CFL setup. my very first grow was in a small box using CFL's i plan on using more than 1 plant this time, so i think the HID system is necessary
well first of all, it's one 200 watt cfl ( about $100 for a veg bulb and the reflector) and IMO it's only good for 1 plant. But fantastic for a closet. My old grow room was very open and had very high ceilings. To cover 12 square feet I used 1000 watt switchables. About 16 plants in 3 gallon bags to start with, and then after the males got thinned out, usually 6 to 12. closet is not defined. Mine is in my office and I keep the door open all the time I am home. But if you close the door and are gone for more than 8 hours with hid, the heat will really build up unless you have something more than a fan. good luck
does anyone have any suggestions as to how i can cool/vent the closet space? attached is a pic of the area in question http://forum.grasscity.com/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_id=1530144 the front door slides out to the left and the back door to the right
