Small buds at week 5, is it normal?

Discussion in 'Micro Grows' started by Dee2019, Apr 17, 2020.

  1. My White Widow Auto grew bigger than I expected it to, though I've noticed the buds are too small. She's on week 5 Flowering now, are they going to get any bigger?

  2. Are you using any nutes? What's the temp in your tent? What watt is your light? What's the soil you have? What's the strain? A bit more information would be useful.

  3. They will get bigger.
The tree looks to be in mid-flower.
It will pick up some weight for sure, but how much weight depends on the questions in the comment above.

  4. For nutes: I'm using Biobiz grow 1ml per 1L of water, Biobizz Bloom 3ml per 1L, Biobizz topmax 3ml per 1L
    Temperature: 25-30 Celsius ( 68 to 86 F)
    Westland Compost
    Humidity: 50-60
    PH: 6.1
It's an indoor plant so I use 600W LED grow light

  5. Sounds good, just that the upper temp limit is a bit high but I have the same problem and no AC so I can't fix it - yet I've still grown successfully - so you should come out fine.

What light are you using though? It makes a big difference...
Older model LEDs are less efficient than Cobs and quantum boards, and advertised wattage is rarely the same as the true wattage of the older models.

Also if you could tell us the size of the area you're growing in, that would help as well in giving you advice on your setup as well.

  6. I'm using this light in image 1 ( it's a full spectrum grow light).
The greenhouse I'm using is 60X60X140Cm. Image 2.

This is my second grow. My first grow was ok, the plant itself was quite small but that's because I used only a 1 gallon pot, I didnt have a greenhouse so I was growing her in my bedroom and nutes from a dollar store. Even though the plant was quite small, the buds were fat and I was satisfied with them. This time I thought I will get good compost, good nutes , bought this greenhouse, and 2 gallon pot.. the plant got so massive ( 4 times the size of my first grow) but the buds seems to be too small. Is it possible for some strains to take more than 8 weeks flowering?

Thanks in advance mate for helping me. I really do appreciate it

  7. My best guess is that the light you're using has an actual power draw of about 80 to 100w... Which would be a little low for the space you're in and it will give you smaller flowers.
What is the actual power draw in the description of the light?

Ultimately, using blurple LEDs, you want about 50w per sq ft as a minimum... That's why my microgrow turned out with such dank buds, the light has an actual power draw of 50w and the box is about 1 sq ft.
    (2ft = 60cm)

You could try lowering your light a bit to give your plant that extra intensity or add some 3000k cfl bulbs hanging about for extra light.

And yes, some strains may take longer to flower... I aim for 8 weeks minimum on the flower cycle unless I see too many amber trichomes.

  8. Yes you are right, it says actual power 180. I'm going to add bulbs but I can't get her any closer to the light, believe it or not but the plant actually outgrown the greenhouse I had to bend her she was too close to the light.

Anyway I emailed the shop I bought the seed of to just double check that I have the correct strain name. They said it was White widow XXL and it takes a minimum of 10 weeks, which gave me a bit of assurance because she still has 5 weeks to go so hopefully buds will fatten up.

I will keep you updated :)

  9. 180w puts you slightly under the 50w/sq ft mark, but you should still be able to get about 100gs with that setup IMO - even without extra bulbs.

Adding some cfl bulbs should allow you to place the bulbs closer to the plant and boost your yields a bit... You can grow the tree almost up against cfls and see no plant damage.

Haha, try to steer clear of the XXL strains for your small greenhouse, I outgrew my 60cmx60cmx120cm DIY grow box very easily and that was with a regular strain, no XXL stuff

Glad I could help you out, excited to see how she finishes off.

  10. Yeah that wattage needs to be upped. I'd suggest the 1500w one that pulls 265w. I got two and they haul. My Lil dream queen is 3w and 4d into flower and looking as fat as yours man. Gotta emulate the sun man!

No issues here with the blurple.
Week 5 flower. *week 6 since flip*

My trichomes are starting to amber so I flushed.
    Harvest in 2 weeks.

Hope they swell up more for you...
    Best of luck
    &
    Happy growings.
