slow seed growth

Discussion in 'Hydroponic Growing' started by okgoace, Oct 15, 2012.

  1. Planted a seed in my bubbleponics on Tuesday. The plants are growing slow and are under 138w cfls. 2 plants. They are about 1.25 and 1.5" out of rockwool, leaves are small and curled still , not fanning out yet. The system was on 24/7 along with lights, put system(water pump, air stone) and a fan to run for an hour 4x daily to see if I can correct my diagnosis which was overwatering but any advice or help would be great

  2. I'm helping my nephew with the same problem... He is a smart kid going to collage but I told him i would get on some forums and see if i could find a few pro's to find out what he is missing. He has a basic dwc setup with a 6 gallon bucket (with 5 gallons in it), net basket, rocks(medium),air pump for a 30 to 60 gallon tank, 1 long air stone in the bottom. He is using Dutch Master Gold Grow A and B (comes in two parts). The seedlings were started with little grow cubes and then put in the dwc bucket. Seedlings are of good strain too from a medical pharmacy. It has been about week and half to two weeks and they are about 5 inchs or more long and still have the four little baby leaves they started off with from the seed. The second of leaves (first set that looks like weed leaves)on all of them finally grew a half inch if that straight up but are really tiny. They are healthy and the ph has been kept perfect at 6.0 or so but something isn't right because they aren't really taking off at all. I'm going to post one based on this but i'm going to keep checking your post too and hopefully a well educated grower can help us both out on this. I feel sorry for my nephew spending time, money, and a lot of research to get almost there but he is missing something....

  3. bro ill tell you how i started mine. i placed my water touching the very bottom of my net pot. i placed a 1 - 2 inch layer of hydroton placed my rockwool in wand covered it with rocks. i top fed with the same solution as my res for a few days until the roots came out and touched the water. then i just let them go. when i did my first res change i only put 4 gallons in and sat them in, they are thriving now and only 2 weeks in. when i got the clones the roots were barely peeking out of the rockwool. now the roots are a huge mass and touch the bottom of my buckets.

dont saturate your rockwool cause you could cause the stem to rot or stress your plant like such.

empty some water (just to the bottom of your net pot) raise your rockwool and inch or so on top of your medium (after they dry out a bit) and watch how crazy they get.

with seedlings i wouldnt add nutes. i also dont know how big your res is but i would add a drop or 2 per gallon of thrive or some kind of rooting agent ie. voodoo until the plants grow a bit, them slowly introduce nutes. even if you do 1 ml per gallon of micro grow after a week

at leat thats what I would do in your situation

hope this helps bro  good luck

  4. He has a bottle of this thrive stuff u put a drop per gallon and is suppost to be world class champ stuff but i thought it would be too much and hurt the seedings.
So basically any hydro system u need to water the top a little until the roots get going. right?
So from the bottom of the rocks down threw the basket and down to the water how far do you think it is the roots had to go?

  5. alright bro so i made this for you in paint. the net pot should sit just above the water. the water should be barly touching the net pot or slightly under it. i add 1 - 2 inch layer of hydroton then place my rock rool (right side of pic) i then fill in the rest of the pot with my medium (left side). i take a small shot glass dip it into my bucket at the seedling stage it should be anout 4.5 gallons of water with 3 - 4 drops of thirve at most) then top feed until i see the roots poking out of the net pot. once i see roots i let the bubbles do the work. like i said they mist the roots and do all the work for you. after a week i would change the res (by now you should have not a lot of roots but youll see a diff then slowly add nutes again i would fill the bucket right underneath where the roots are. add 3 drops or so of thrive 1 ml per gallon of micro and grow and bam you should be set.

    hope this helps bro

  6. lol love the picture...did u smoke before you wrote and drew that lol kinda cool but ya i got it..main thing was set them higher up and top feed for a little till it get started...i should be cool now i post pics n the post i was talking to you on after i fixed everything earlyer and the cubs are already drying out a little plus the light closer really helps

  7. to answer your question yes i was fucking ripped lol still am. im a visual person on simple stuff but when it comes to the hard im a trial an error learner figured it might help lol. :hello: you should see a huge differene in a week or so. next time get a tray or something to set those statrter cubes in and wait until roots are healthy and your plants are a bit stronger. i find it makes it easier

also those rocks look big to me but i have seen great results with similar rocks. im all about on a budget bro so whatever works lol

glad i could help bro. im a noob myelf im no expert by any means but i do have a little experince under my belt both good and bad lol :smoke: i found hydro by killing 2 soil grows lol im too impatient and with hydro everything happens so quick its almost like growing is my adderal and the bud is my morphine works out for everyone lol

once you get the hang of it and your ladies start to take off youll gain a whole new respect for growing and for the plant. for instance i understand a lot of what the people are saying on here especially if what their saying doesnt make sense at the time usually it will end up making sense in the end. i hope you will keep it updated to let us know how these turn out.

im sure I asked and maybe you answered but again... im baked bro... what strain r you growing? also do you know the breeder?

  8. dude do u got facebook...i only get on once a week or two but thats how i keep in touch with everyone. I seen you was from FL i just moved from orlando a couple years ago. my family lives down there

  9. im using sh bubbleponics hydro kit with ff mutes, grow big and big bloom for vegetative at 1/16power. Plants are still droopy , dark green.

Your killing your plant bro. Since its a seedling you should have just straight water phed to 5.7 ish with a drop of super thrive per gallon nothing more. You should wait about 2 weeks or until your roots are in the water and you plant looks healthy enough for food. I suggest you empty your res and replace with phed water

    Do you have any pics??

  11. Maybe 1/16th is off. I put 1 cap of each into a 5gallon res. My plants are a lucious green, the leaves are not yellow or brown. Just droopy leaves. I do but I dont know how to remove location from the picture

  12. ALSO correct me if im wrong, superthrive is just b vitamins? Which are fat soluble meaning they store in fat and thus cannot be used by plants? i had read a study from the university of Kentucky about b vitamins and plants use of them. There was no experimental evidence that proved that plants actually utilize the b vitamins thus causing no change to the plant only to the administrator of the vitamins, giving them a feeling of security.

  13. ur plants are very dark green because of the nutes ur using (burning the delicate seedling)

the grow bible says do not add nutes until the first two sets of true cannabis leaves appear with the jagged edges

the good news is that the cotyledon leaves have appeared which means that more light will help the plant grow faster but ease up on the nutes until the plants are larger

P.s. clones are less delicate than seedlings

  14. If you rnot giving nurtes you dont need to stabliaze the ph..
the ph is only important when giving nutes..
and yea 10-14 day old plants should get a 25% mix of nutes.
