Sleep Issues...Little advice please

Discussion in 'Experienced Cannabis Enthusiasts' started by JokerSmoker, Nov 23, 2006.

  1. Hey guys, I have been toking for a few years now pretty much non-stop. I've been pretty high for a long time now, lol. And today was my first actual day of sobriety, I've went thru approximatly 2 days without smoking now. It's not that bad, no real withdrawal symptoms or anything.

But throughout the last 2 days it has been very difficult for me to catch some ZZZZZZ's. I tried napping, didn't work, I can't smoke until I go to court. I notice im hungry a lot more now though, strangely.

I was wondering if there is anyone that could shed some light on some things that could help put my mind to sleep. It feels almost as if the definition of sleep has escaped my brain and it's kind of creeping me out. It seems as if the past 4 days or so have all ran together. I've had about 4-5hrs. in 2 days. I don't really feel bad or anything, its just like....can NOT sleep.....I get my work done, did my finals for college and all....sleep is just...absent.

    Anyone ever have this problem?

  2. It's not so uncommon. You've just forgotten how to completely relax without pot, probably. Try some relaxation excercises or something. It takes a while to get into a new set of rhythms, nothing to worry about, really.

Other than that, just get loads of work done, make the most of it.

  3. Try some over the counter sleep medicine. Or mabey like do a really hard workout right before going to bed. Just to get you tired.

  4. Ah finally, i fell asleep last night around 4AM thank heavens. Slept pretty damn good too, its now thanksgiving and i had some hellacious turkey and stuff, family is downstairs. Finally feeling a bit better. I realized one of the hardest parts is keeping yourself busy, after that the time flys and you don't notice as much! Hooray for sobriety breaks, i really do need one.

I used to run alot back in the day, but of course since I picked up smoking I kind of lost intrest in it. I can't do anything too physical right now because I recently had my ingrown toe nail fixed and it's a little sore. It's really ironic you recommend sleeping pills because I was over a friends house not too long ago and she gave some to me, and I slept like a baby. I'm going to try those, until I can do some sort of physical activity. Wish I could go play some golf :(

thanks guys:D I'm feeling alot better already.

  5. yeah i agree its probably just that your used to going to bed high and you gotta re-learn how to put yourself to sleep.

Drink a whisky and coke or something before bed.

  6. Yea I go through that shit every other month when I have to drop for probation. I usually cant eat or sleep much for 3-5 days, then after that everythings fine and I sleep and eat normally. Todays my first day of detox so Im gonna be in the same boat as you for the next few days...hopefully I can get my hands on some vicadin or xanax or something to keep me numb.

  7. Yep, I've found the same thing... the first few days of no-smoking I can't sleep at all. The first night I sometimes am up all night and about 8AM I'm finally tired but have to get up.

I find doing physical exercise definitely helps, and taking some melatonin half hour before bedtime is also useful.

  8. Just take like a shot or two of rum before you got to bed lol.

  9. I know how you feel man. When I quit drinking a little while ago, I had terrible withdrawl symptoms. I think I did some permanent damage to my body. One of the problems was that I was so used to drinking 20 beers to get to sleep, when I quit I would just lay in bed and stare at the clock. A few tips I could give you......
When I first quit drinking I needed to take valium to help with some withdrawl symptoms. When I finally stopped taking that, I got some tylenol simply sleep. It is an over the counter sleep medication. It does work, but some mornings I wake and I feel like I'm hungover. Also every night before bed I drink some sleepy time tea. Celestial Seasoningss makes it I think. It's really good and it really helps me relax. Other than that all I do is keep my room a little colder, so the warmth of my bed is relieving to me, listen to some chill music, and sleep comes a lot easier. Peaople say, whatever you do don't stare at the clock all night......hope this helps you catch some zzzzzs. If all else fails get a girlfriend. Sex works every time.......

  10. I would not take any OTC sleeping meds, will be a lot worse after taking those. Just give it a few days, and you will be sleeping normal again. I had trouble for the first few days sleeping, would just take longer to fall asleep. I would eXerise alot, 30 min sesions a day. you will get the thC out of your system muCh faster and when you smoke again you will have a low tollerenCe.

  11. That tea works wonders with my insomnia, i recommend it aswell.

  12. Something else that works is melatonin and a natural herb valerian root, take them together and they work well.

  13. Hey try jerking off before bed...knocks ya right out. Seriously ! Its great to be a guy !!!:hello:

  14. ^^^ also tried and true:)

  15. i always have trouble sleeping, it runs in the family i guess, but i find that switching up my surroundings and/or finding things to distract me. like right now, im sleeping on the couch instead and checking out this forum. beats watching the clock tick.

  16. Yup, it's even "scientifically proved", releases a sedative into the blood-stream, or someting like that. Regular sex works too, even better.
