I figured I'd post my little setup here, I'm open to suggestions. It's very simple($0 budget). I'm growing an unknown seed I got from a pal. Changed the setup quite a bit. My other container wasn't as airtight as I would have liked, So I chose rubbermaid :/ Mini SOG?LST? I think so. Specs: Rubbermaid Container-Blue 1 90 mm input fan 1 140 mm output fan Old Spec's: Trunk Dimensions: 30L x 15.75W x 12.25H inches 3 CFL's, 600 Lumen's each. http://uploadit.swedftp.com/out.php/i104_20100126151625.544.jpg http://uploadit.swedftp.com/out.php/i103_20100126151643.857.jpg I still have yet to mount the lights, I also still have to make the intake and outtake spot's. I have a couple questions. 1. Odor control, will it smell skunky? Although it's not super skunky bud I'm confident that it will still reek. If so how should I combat it? 2. How do I keep it short? I wan't it to be about 1ft tall, but with bushy leaves, how should I achieve this, and how much could I possibly yield from a 1ft tall plant? 3.What cheap nutrients should I get for putting inside of the water? Tell me what you think and I'm open to suggestions.
Get yourself some old computer fans for intake/exhaust, mount thos lights, and you'll be in busness! Not bad for a $0 budget.
and get rid of that foil, just paint it flat white inside...do not use spray paint..lol other wise, cant wait to see it finished.
Are you confident about that, I heard somewhere that foil reflects optimal light. And thanks budzilla . You'd be suprised how much you can pull off, Most of the things you need are in your home already.
Take that foil off now. Does more damage then good Buy some mylar (or security blankets... The heaps shiny silver ones)... If not paint the walls flat white... How is cool fresh air and warm smelly air going to pass in and out? A homemade DIY carbon filter will get rid of odors from your exhaust... $20 to make. What wattage and spectrum are your lights? You want around 100 watts of 6500k for veg and 100watts of 2700k for flowering.. Goodluck! check out my grow in my sig
I already know that I've needed the exhaust and I've got plenty of fans in my comp that I can use, But I was wondering how would I hook the fans up to a power source? and How can I make the holes, its about a quarter inch of fiber board and I don't have any power tools. Also, I am just using ground soil(start shunning me) I really am confident in it though as it's from a raised garden bed, I've had it for about 10 years and its so nice.
Hi mate. Im still in the process of getting my first grow up & running , so i dont have alot of advice to offer, but for odour you could try this, i was thinking of using it but i decided to save a bit extra a get a proper cf system. From what ive read in a few forums it supposed to be really good & recommended, check it out, hope this helps :} GD luck ! Ive heard from a bunch of different people that only the carbon filter truly removes all odor of your plants... I cant comment on that product, never used. Pc fan: Unplug pc fan from computer. Find out whether its Ac or Dc and how many volts (Should be on the back of the fan.. If not trial and error till it works for you.) Accumulate an appropriate voltage AC/DC transformer, 9Volts/12Volts is the best bet... Something like what you get from cheap computer speakers or a Phone charger.. ANYWHOS! Strip back about 2 inches from the pc fans red and black wires, and from the red and black wires on your transformer. Red to red, Black to black. Test to see if fan works, if not swap cables around Red to black, Black to red. When it works seal up all exposed wire with tape.. Yeah i had trouble with my growbox as well because i have no tools. I cut my vent holes by using a small knife looking hand saw and 'drilled' a hole into where i wanted, pushing the blade in deeper and deeper getting the hole bigger and bigger.. Fixed up with some sandpaper.. Yours seems thinker then mine though so im not sure.. You may have to invest in a cheap Jigsaw.. Get one under $50 from most hardware stores.. Hmm tut tut on the soil haha JK But seriously i never understood why people skimmped on the soil hey... I mean everyone invests into their cab or their seeds or their lights ect ect.... But the soil is often left till the end of the shopping list, a rushed decision. The plants will be living in this soil. It is literally the most crucial element of the equation. You could have the best setup in the world but if your using shit soil your plants will most likely die. Good new for you though, if you happen to find yourself in some extra wealth, go out and buy a bag of some premium quality, organic potting mix with no added nutrients or time release water or anything like that.. Bat/cow/chicken shit is all good. Seaweed(kelp) is good. Perlite and Peatmoss is good. Mulched up animals/fish is very good... Thats what kind of soil you want.. Im using this and this, not the best of the cheapest but what i could afford and what was available - Yates Seed Raising Soil Mix Yates Sulphate of Potash Nutes Well yeah have fun reading haha
Well I have no budget so it's hard to worry about soil, I haven't spent a cent so-far. But I have money for soil now, so suggest to me the soil, nutrients, and other goodies I can afford for $10. I was checking this out. Is it worth it? Miracle-Gro 8 Qt. Organic Choice Potting Mix Miracle-Gro 8 Qt. Sphagnum Peat Moss
You might also want to do a little bit of LST if youre only looking to grow it about a foot tall. Those are my two cents, and about the ONLY thing that these guys didnt cover. lol. Other than that, good luck with your setup man.
Changed the setup quite a bit. My other container wasn't as airtight as I would have liked, So I chose rubbermaid :/ Mini SOG?LST? I think so. Specs: Rubbermaid Container-Blue 1 90 mm input fan 1 140 mm output fan 1 cfl :/ I need gutted lamps! and a timer i think im gonna get the timer for $5.
