side panel case fan noise issue as intake but quiet as exhaust

    Can someone help me figure out why my fan makes a loud as hell buzzing noise as intake but quiet as exhaust?

    I had the panel off and checked its hitting no wires..

    Any chance you have a coolermaster case? I have the same problem and it seems to be from the thin steel side panels they use.

    It's even worse when you run two hard drives, the vibration from them can make your case noisy.

    But the fans shouldn't vibrate more in one direction than the other. It's got to be hitting something or maybe when used as intake there is alot of air restriction causing it to make noise......

    What do you mean by buzzing? First thing that comes to mind is a problem with the fan bearing itself, but it might be something in your case interfering with the fan making the noise.

    yes... I do have a Coolermaster case.. and yeah my side panel sucks.


    I opened the side panel slightly and turned the computer on, theres no wires interfering. If it was the bearing why would the buzz be much quieter as exhaust?

    Having it as intake lowers my video card temps by about 10c. Thats pretty big. But its annoyingly loud.

    I could always .. you know.. buy a new 10$ case fan.. rofl.

    But I'm thinking it has to do with my Side Panel on my case.

    What video card do you have? You should just buy a good cooler for it and use the side panel fan as exhaust fan since it works quietly this way.
