Sick plants :( first grow help!

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Remoc05, Sep 27, 2018.

  1. hey guys.
Posted a few times for questions and everyone seems to help so I have an issue.
I planted 4 durban poison seeds two weeks ago, they were growing amazing and healthy.
I went away for work and my gf was watering them ( I believe she was over watering them )
I came back and they were all droopy and yellowish leaves.
They look terrible now and it’s very disappointing.
So I cut the solo cups they were in up and examined the roots.
They looked really healthy and white ( wrapped around the bottom ) could root bound cause this?
Anyway I transplanted them last night into 5 gallon smart pots very gentle.
I have a organic mix in my soil right now.
I’m hoping they will come around or should I just start over ?
    Here’s some pictures

    Specs:
    Organic soil mix
Temps - 25-29 Celsius with lights on
    Lights off 18 Celsius
Humidity was around 35%, bought a humidifier and it’s around 50% now.

  2. Let the soil dry and they’ll perk up looks like overwatering just water them everytime the pots dry

  3. I let the soil dry to basically dirt in the solo cups and nothing happened :—/

  4. You planted them LAST NIGHT. Be patient, plants don't react immediately. Almost any plant when its young put a lot of energy in building their root system. Let them take a breath and realize their new home.

  5. I understand that.
I was just wondering if they would bounce back. They looked like that before I put them in.

  7. When a seedling is stressed
It really really is bogged in over tended to over watered soil. Once it happens, the plant will try and regain its composure. But it’s STUCK
    Good luck. Stop hovering

  8. Have you got perlite in the soil? What you feeding her ?

  10. Not a soil grower admittedly but looks like bad ph to me. To small to have so many deficiencies through lack of feed so I’d say bad ph most likely culprit. The yellowing bottoms is N def. the rust spots are cal or mag def.
what’s the ph of the feed and what’s the ph of the run off? You’ll have to check with a soil grower but sure you guys need around ph7
Also, the term over watering actually refers to a lack of oxygen in the root zone. Nothing to do with the amount of water. Use 30-40% perilite in the mix and you can constantly feed 24/7 if you wanted to. Problem solved.
50%rh is still a little low. 60-65 ideally for veg. Some like myself prefer 70-75.
Go google VPD scale and have a quick read of that. Basically you want to keep temps and humidity relative to each other for the best environment. As we all have different temps to deal with we have different levels of rh that will work best.
Can see it’s not right by the dehydrated look on the leaves.

  11. I started off with EWC,perlite and perlite 1:1:1 mix

  12. Yeah I’m not sure what exactly happened.
I didn’t do a run off because I thought it was over watering so I didn’t want to water any more lol.
These are only two weeks old I grew them in ewc, perlite and peat moss.

I didn’t feed them anything yet until this transfer, I’m hoping them come around but
I am new to this shit, so I’ll google how to correctly do a run off etc. I have the tools here for ph check.

  13. Yeah you should always water to at least 10% run off. Stops excess salts n stuff building up.... which cause amongst other things ph problems lol.
I’m gonna have to go check what ewc is... hang on..

  14. Ahhhh right, Got is sussed.
Peat moss doesn’t hav nutes in it mate. I thought it did. Its there to hold onto nutes and assist in aeriation. Perilite also contains nothing useful so the only nutes are from the worm shit. Which at only 33% isn’t much I wouldn’t Imagine.
According to google peat moss also tends to have way too low a ph for what we need. So again I’ll stick with my ph diagnosis. I give mine zero nutrition for 5days then 100ppm till they’re your size so even just a bit of worm shit should still be enough idve thought.
I’d imagine now that she’s into proper soil she should just sort herself out tbh. make sure there’s plenty peri in it before she roots up though. Start ph’ing your water before you add it and all should return to normal after a week or 2.
Once the new growth comes out looking healthy she’s back to normal regardless of how the rest looks.

  15. Thanks man.
I appreciate your effort in helping me.
I thought the first weeks didn’t really need any nutrients.
I did that organic soil mix for beginners.
Basically peat moss, ewc, perlite, kelp meal, crab meal, rock dust, fertilizer.
So I hope it picks up.

I’m starting another fresh seeds again today.
Doing germination and I might go buy regular soil at the farm store to start out and see the difference between my organic and non organic.
Do you have any suggestions for basic soil for me ?

  16. Yeah,don’t use it lol.
I’m a hydro/coco grower mate. The very thought of using soil makes me itch.
Got someone that can help though.....

  17. @FlexedDabs would you be so kind as to advise here mate? Reached the limit of my usefulnes unfortunately. You seem to know your mud chuckin though, any thoughts for our friend here?
Last couple posts are the most relevant.

  18. Hey new to this forum but can people check out my post and let me know if I can salvage this plant

  19. Glad to throw a couple pennies at this.

    Hey Remoc05!

From what I read above, you started off in a solo cup with 1:1:1 peat:perlite:ewc. Plants were in the solo cups for 2 weeks and then recently transplanted to your organic soil made of:
"Basically peat moss, ewc, perlite, kelp meal, crab meal, rock dust, fertilizer."

The number 1 thing you are missing is compost. Your base mix should be:
    1 part SPM
    1 part Airation
    1 part compost
Although EWC can be used as part of the compost portion, it should be limited to less than Half the compost part.

Coot said that the absolute most important ingredient to the soil is a great compost. If you don't want to or can't make your own, look for Malibu BU. It's considered one of the best bagged compost.

The number 2 thing you are missing is enough airation. How much perlite did you put in? Was it equal to what you put in of peat? Also, look into getting something that does not float to the top like scoria (lava rock) or pumice.

Third, can you give the ratios of each of the amendments in the mix? What is in the "fertilizer" you added?

Lastly, if you wanted to just scrap the entire DIY soil and purchase a water only soil, check this out:
    KIS Organics Biochar Soil Mix

As for your current plants, let em ride and see what happens. If they die, chop them, compost the soil they were using and start over. If the soil was on point I know they would recover in a couple weeks. However, I'm not sure that's the case here.

    Peace!

  20. I did the inthegardens beginner grow guide.
Easy Organic Soil Mix for Beginners

Followed it down to the T, I did add fertilizer and not much.

But my initial grow in the solo cups only had ewc, perlite, peat.

Yeah I like that soil. KIS looks simple haha.
I might give that a try. I’m a complete noob and trying to learn.
    Hydroponics looks cool to.
