Sick Plant

  1. My Papaya is about 2 weeks old, and it's under a 20w CFL.
It's started showing these strange colourings and the edges of two of the leaves while the rest is fine. I can't see it on the plant abuse growth chart, any chance anyone can tell me what it is?

  2. have you given it any nutes?...how far away is your lights

  3. No nutes.
Lights are usually really close, but not to the affected leaves.
Others are closer and havent been affected.
    Should I trim these leaves?

  4. what soil are you useing that may help us figure the prob out

  5. It looks to me like the early stages of a leaf burn, has the plant been left without water at any point or has the bulb been too close?

  6. Standard B&Q potting soil 'for young plants'.
    No nutes.
I'm fairly sure it's been decently watered all this time, and the bulb hasnt been that close to the leaves, although they could have grown close to it then grown away when they got burned.

  7. Overwatering/poor drainage I bet...

Let it dry out for a bit. When you re-pot lob a handful of perlite or somesuch in with the soil and some pebbles or hydroleca clay balls in the bottom - they sell em in B&Q. I know that soil is okay cuz I use it on mine.

    Good luck m8! :)

  8. they might need a dose of epson salts 1 table spoon to 5liters of waster for watering

  9. I've just watered with some 5-5-5 +mag and I've noticed that something seems to have chomped a piece out of one of her new leaves, or it's been torn off. wtf?

  10. Obv. first port of call is look for bugs n slugs etc and if not....

Silly question - but have you got a cat? lol

Pets can be partial to a nibble!

  11. do you know the pH of your water?

  12. Is there drainage on the pot?? How big is the pot? For sure check for bugs and I think you should add some perlite or anything to help with drainage, mostly they go yellow from drainage problems but its a dark looking plant. The roots might not be getting nutes from sitting in compacted wet soil or the pot could be too small and its root bound. The 20w cfl wont burn it but could be suffering from a lack of light, that isnt much she needs more. Could explain the leaf dying off, Im guessing you need much more lighting. Hope it turns around for ya..

  13. Those spots have since turned really dark brown like they're dead, although the rest of the plant looks wonderfully healthy.
I just transplanted into a far bigger pot (used nearly 10 more litres of soil) and it looked like she was root bound.
I watered with nutes yesterday, should I water now since I just transplanted?
