Hello there, I am in need of a new catcher and am between choosing between a showerhead or 11 arm ashcatcher. Which do you guys think is better? I am mainly trying to avoid getting a shitty ashcatcher because when I bought my first bong it came with a spiral ashcatcher, which I thought was fine but after searching grasscity I realized it was terrible. Links to the pictures of the ashcatchers are below: http://images.craigslist.org/5I15Ec5Ff3Ed3I23ofc958e202976ac211421.jpg http://cdn100.iofferphoto.com/img3/...lass-ash-catcher-percolator-diffuser-2bf2.jpg
because they increase drag and increase diffusion (if your glass is good it shouldn't need any more diffusion than wat it already has). bongs going to need to be cleaned regardless of weather or not you use an a/c. and a glass screen works just as good without all the gadgetry and cost
You should look into a carbon filter. They do a better job for smoothness/cleanliness. And both those ash catchers are just gonna spill all the water into your bong, the chambers are far to small. Just be a pain in the ass having to fuck with water levels every hit.
i use ash catchers and i only worry about water levels when i fill them....what shitty glass have you used?
i agree with the people who say no ash catcher. When i first started smoking i always wanted to add things on to the bong like ash catchers so it had more chambers. And then i came to the conclusion that ash catchers are not worth the effort. Like some one else stated, you have to clean your bong any ways. So your going to have to clean out your ash catcher every time too its just another thing to clean. I personally change my bong water out 2-3 times a day (Maybe more) depending on how much i am smoking that day. But when i change the water i run cold tap water through it and get any debris out fairly easy. Also after you snap 3 or 4 bowls out of an ash catcher the water is black and makes the hit taste disgusting, so once again you have to go clean out another piece of glass. Also some one stated the chambers are to small and it will suck glass into your main piece and fuck with the water levels. I personally just think they are a pain in the ass and not worth the effort, but thats just my opinion, if your gonna get an ash catcher i say get a SYN Shower Head Ash Catcher, That will have minimal Drag
i use ash catchers and i only worry about water levels when i fill them....what shitty glass have you used?
Oh my sg and 2011bc ash catcher. Real shitty glass ya know? Did you look at the ash catchers posted? Chambers are way to small to function right. So i said a carbon filter. I didnt knock ash catchers in general...
Both won't function very good. Like furgen said the chambers are too small and will splash water down the joint
I always suggest against carbon filters unless you've already tried one because I'm a hater. I didn't like the way they affected my high and they are also another thing to clean, to me much more difficult than my showerhead a/c. If you like them then fine but I don't find them to be worth it. The others have some good points about ashcatchers, they do get dirty if you're snapping and they are another piece to clean. I got a Vertigo showerhead to go with my 10 arm bubbler and it was actually a good setup. The showerhead is really good at keeping ash in without it getting out to stick in the arms of my more expensive piece. I don't usually use screens for flowers because its either my cheapo bong or the a/c'ed 10 arm. Those ones are most likely too small though, as has also been stated.
showerhead but ash catchers r pretty pointless
I've got to say this is one of the dumbest things I've read here. The main goal of an "ASHcatcher" is to catch ash lol. I had a nice tree perc ash catcher on my Zob Inline, and it made my tube 100x easier to clean. The only thing I consistently cleaned was the ash catcher itself. Plus it can add more diffusion if the quality is good enough. By a quality piece and you won't need to worry about adding drag.
Catching ash is great and all but if you smoke a lot you end up cleaning your bong a lot regardless of if you use an ash catcher. All an a/c does for someone who constantly rips bowls throughout the day is just add one more thing that has to be cleaned. I don't mess with inlines so I can't comment on whether or not an a/c is a necessity for them. Adding diffusion is great if you have like a straight tube with nothing but a diffused downstem. If you have a quality piece of glass above 150$ than adding diffusion isn't needed and this is where you start sacrificing smoothness for increased diffusion that is irrelevant. Steel Screen or Pinched Slides are made for this exact purpose. Ash Catcher doesn't solve the problem of ash in your bong it just puts the ash in a different thing that has to be cleaned. So I guess they are probably useful if you have some hulking bong that is incredibly hard to clean because if its size/shape. But other than that I see them as a massive waste of money especially because the cheaper a/c's can really turn a nice tube into a piece of a crap.
Thats where your carbon filter comes in. Ash catchers have turned to be more for diffusion rather than "ash catching." If people want to keep their tubes clean, carbon filter will do 10x better than any ash catcher will. Its also 10x easier to clean a carbon filter than an ash catcher. Where did mr tea go runnin off too? Edit: Just saw teas thread, no wonder this dude is all over ash catchers, uses like 3-4 on a piece at a time lol.
I still don't understand your logic. Ac's are pointless because they are extra cleaning? Do you know how easy it is to clean an ash catcher? i fill it with alc and salt and give it a quick shake and that's all. It's not a bong that takes a bit more time. ashcatchers are worth it because they add more smoke to your hits, help precool the smoke, diffuse the smoke and catch ash. It's easier for me to smoke a lot when I'm taking 5 rips per bowl rather than 15.
lol it maybe easy to clean but it is just that, ANOTHER THING TO CLEAN. Believe me dude i used to rock ash catchers all the time, i just dont think there worth the effort any more. Can you guys please come by my glass/bud picture thread and comment? it would make my day, the link is in my signature at the bottom!
If you actually would read i never said an ash catcher is pointless cause extra cleaning, im saying that if your actually using it for "catching ash" to keep a bong clean, a carbon filter will do a much better job. I use an ash catcher/precooler alot of the time, but im always using carbon before them. It all goes back to the original ash catchers, which would not function right. Therefore if wanting your bong clean, a filter would be much more effective and cheaper too. You make it sound like im against ash catchers, which im not at all. I am however against using 3-5 at the same time lol
