I am not. I can taste the herb, but no vapor
I would say your temp is a tad low then. The biggest hit is often the second, but I still get very visible vapor on the first. You could try experimenting with a slower pull too.
Yes. There is definitely some variance in this, but what is more likely a bigger factor is draw speed. DBV's temperature is largely dependent on two different variables, power delivered by the heater (adjusting the knob) and air draw speed. Because of this, it would be fairly useless for them to have all DBV's calibrated for the same temp at the same knob position and therefore there are differences and somebody's 2 could very well be your 12. Granted I've only ever used my personal DBV, I'm guessing the dial positions aren't usually too far off one another, but draw speed dictates where your dial should be. BTW: All of this also has gave way to my favored technique of locking in 1 variable and adjusting the other. Either keep the dial at a set position and adjust your draw speed (slower draw = higher air temp), or draw at the same speed every time and adjust the knob.
It also depends on your buds.. Depending on the moisture left in the bud, you may only get flavor because that first hit was more of a prep hit to completely dry out the bud. Once the bud is completely dry from the first (sometimes it takes two) hit, it should start really vaporizing. Like it was said before, the second hit is usually the best as far as density of vapor, so if all of your hits are fairly wispy and not so dense, you could try turning it up 1 more "o' clock" or just 1/2 "o' clock". Judging the temperature to timescales can be different DBV to DBV. This is because if you pull off the temperature knob, you'll notice that it has many teeth to align to, so the line on the knob can be changed very easily..
Yes, many variables with the buddha! I usually set mine about halfway between 12 - 1, depending on the bud. My first hits are quicker. Towards the end of a bowl, I take slower and more drawn out hits.
