Should I Transplant When The Soil Is Dry, Moist Or Really Wet?

  1. It seems that it has always been far easier for me to transplant when the plant is dry as it comes right out the pot and doesn't fall apart. I am not sure if this is the best way to do it though and have heard many conflicting opinions on it.  Which do you do and which do you prefer. Thanks!

  2. I transplant when it's dry or slightly moist. Just because it's less messy, not for a strategic advantage. But I've never had an issue transplanting.

  3. The drier the better in my experience

  4. This has been my (limited) experience as well.

  5. I water good about 1 hour before I transplant. I feel it helps the soil from falling apart better and if it does it is less traumatic. My last transplant was an auto flower. I transplanted from red cup at week 2 to a 1 gallon pot and at week 3 I transplanted to a 5 gallon. My soil broke apart pretty bad and disturbed the root ball a lot but it did not skit a beat. I think the more important thing is to let the plant get just a little root bound to the root ball holds together good.
