I am currently using fox farm grow big nutes and I need to take some clones this weekend. I read that you should lower the Nitrogen levels before taking clones. Is this true? If so, should I just stop giving the grow big or should I give them a flush before taking the clones?
I have never done that and my clones never have any trouble rooting. But I do make sure my clone water whether using cubes or plain soil like FFOF is between 5.4 ph and 5.6 ph. If they are upper plant clones I use 5.6 ph, if they are lower plant clones I use 5.4. Then I feed my clones 1% nitrogen, 1% phosphate, 1% Potash, 0.10% chelated iron, 0.10% boron. Basically B-1, and my homemade kelp meal. I do the following after I have basically saturated my medium with my initial ph(ed) water, I feed my clones a tbsp every 2 days to my cubes, or 1 tbsp a day if they are in soil. My clones usually root in just 7 days that way. If you are not into making your own nutrients, you can use something like Fox Farm Kelp Me Kelp You 1ml per gallon, or something like Technaflora Root 66 1ml per gallon, and a good B-1 supplement, 2ml per gallon mixed with the kelp supplement.
Thanks for the response. I have some thrive alive b-1 red. I was going to add some to the soak water. How do you feed them once they are in the cubes? How do you water the cubes? I was just gonna soak them with a spray bottle when needed.
Like I said you initially soak your cubes with your ph(ed) water, then a quick snap of your wrist to remove the excises water, then I spray them with the same level of ph water (2) times a day, morning and night, then starting on day (3) I feed them my mix every other day, the old fashion way, by hand.... but still keep up with the spraying, morning and night!
