Should I enlist?

  1. First of all I don't know where to post this but I assumed this is the best place.

For some reason recently (couple years) I have been thinking about joining the Canadian military. It just seems like something I want to do, I am extremely passionate about it and the wages are good if I save everything and live on base.

I haven't decided what field or branch but I know I would only be signing myself for 2 years max most likely (unless I end up loving it). The benefits are great plus I get free college (another reason I want to join) and it looks great on a resume.

I have always wanted to help others, and I love my country, if I lived in the states there is probally no way in hell I would enlist.

    But there are some cons:
-the war right now is total bullshit, but atleast Canada are defined more as "peacekeepers" there.
-I can't smoke weed, honestly my biggest gripe but oh well I know when to stop habits and get my act together.
-and incase something did happen to me (not so concerned though, I know some people that have yet to see action or saw very little)

I obviously wouldn't join right away, I would spend time to get my body used to waking up at 4AM, going for runs and getting more exercise (preparing myself for basic training).

So what are your thoughts GC?
plus if anyone has served for their military could they possibly give me some insight on how it is? how hard basic training is and what to expect.

Oh and seriously don't give me that "your gonna die" bullshit because I hear that crap all the damn time. I have a friend in the army that hasn't been close to being injured.

TLDR: Thinking about joining the Canadian military, don't know what branch yet. They offer great benefits and I think the 2 years would be nice for the experience.

  2. I'm just gonna say this without even reading the body of your message.

    HELL NO.

  3. Why not join the canadian military? Not like they go to war anyway!

  4. Exactly, there are still batallions that are chilling in thee country that have yet ti even be sent overseas.

And to the other guy, literally read my post before you even say yes or no. It honestly pisses me off how people think the Canadian military is a mirror image of the State's because it's not.

  5. Canada? Sure.

  6. Canada has a military?

  7. I hear this comment alot. It's funny though because our military is known to make much better decisions than yours plus our military is more respected world-wide.

Almost every country in the world has it's own military, don't be so ignorant.

  8. Just because they don't stick their proverbial noses into the business of other countries, doesn't mean they deserve to be discredited. Don't be ignorant.

  9. Whoa now i was joking, id love to live in not trying to get involved with everything Canada. Plus i love the cold weather.
I told myself i'd move to Canada if obama gets reelected, idk bout that lol

  10. I've wanted to move to Canada for a while, but it's super hard to get citizenship.

  11. Sorry if I did sound prude, it's just something I wanted serious answers on : /. Well I am gonna go over to the recruitment center tomorrow and learn up on some careers in the navy and airforce and see what's available

  12. I think that's your best course of action. Figure it out for yourself.
I would NEVER in a BAZILLION years join the US military. JMO. I have nothing but the utmost respect for our service members, but I currently find great fault in the over-seeing of our military.

  13. Yeah that's why I am trying the safer options first by checking out the airforce and navy

  14. I don't know much about which branches are better to join as I'm not canadian..(here it would be navy or coast guard) however my brother is thinking of enlisting for similar reasons(money for school, good job) he is already in college so he would go into officer training and start higher up..he will probably do something like the coast guard..hopefully...
Anyways the point is :) can you do something like officer training? Like go to school and graduate an officer? That's always a better option, I would never join my military because I don't agree with the war, but the military has a lot of good benefits and you can have a career through retirement and then have a pension. Not a bad deal, if you can be an officer right away and in branch that's no so dangerous.

  15. I don't agree with war either that's why I want to get a tech job in the airforce or navy. If that doesn't work (don't see why not, I got good grades in HS) I will probally do artillery.

I could potentially be an officer depending on if my HS academics prove good enough but officer's need to serve a minimum of 6 years. I just want the NCO minimum of 2 yrs, because I want to experience it before I know I like it.

Oh ok that makes sense then, and if your grades were good and you're smart(you seem it :) ) then that probably is what you will do. My boyfriend was going to enlist in the navy before he met me and then changed his mind after. He took the test they give and because he scored well he was going to get a tech job. I didn't knwo you had a longer time commitment with officer training, but if you can get a tech job then you're good. The military is a good oppertunity, and afterwards if you don't like then you can go to school for free. Find out all you can (seems like you already know a great deal) and write a list of pros and cons. However it kind of seems like you already know what you want.

  17. If its something you feel is right. Then, go for it man.

You're bettering your country and securing a future for yourself, your family, friends, and all others.

  18. Yeah I wanna live on base, just experience the whole military life, hell even if I don't like it, it's only 2 years atleast I can say I did it, and it looks good on a resume.

I just want to live on base and save as much money as possible. Once I get back I want to go to Vegas with my friends for all my hard work lol (19 right now, so I'd be 21 once I'm out). And use the rest to maybe make a down payment somewhere.
