Should I cure and decarb, or just decarb

  1. subject pretty much says it. Is it worth doing a real curing on flower (like for days at least) if I'm going to then decarb it. or, does decarbing take care of it?
Fyi, i'm new to decarbing and edibles, so I'm asking if there's a truly significant payoff in curing. I'm not a connesuer at this point, so...is it worth my time to cure?

  2. Your herb needs to be very dry when making edibles. Though I've been smoking a long time I'm not a connoisseur either. I have cooked with fresh herb with excellent results. Dry your cannabis thoroughly, a 200F oven will do the trick. Decarb at 240F for 40 minutes then grind finely and add to recipe, or (my preference) extract into butter/oil/alcohol. Most important- enjoy!

  3. I would think a long decarb at lower temp would take care of drying it too. Like 2 hrs at 200. Never made butter with fresh weed though so can’t be sure

That's a good idea, but- 240F for 40 minutes is a proven decarb (checked by testing, results available in Another Tincture thread), 200F for two hours will produce a questionable decarb, but may work just fine. Have enough to experiment?

  5. Drying for a few days precedes curing for a few weeks or months for most people.
I've not done the testing, but logic dictates that wet herb, which is about 80% water, won't properly decarb.
In general, all the water must boil off @ 212 F before the herb can rise above that temp, although there would certainly be hot and cold spots.
Air decarb is different from in-oil decarb, and they are both probably different from in-water decarb.
Drying is necessary, but curing isn't when making edibles.
    Joker has given good advice.

  6. I have no experience with a long decarb but have read about longer decarbs at lower temps producing similar results. Just thought it could kill two birds with one stone so I threw it out there. I decarb at 240-250 for about 30 minutes when I make butter.

  7. thanks guys, I have the Ardent decarb wonder machine, can I trust that?
would you recommend curing for a few days anyway?

  10. I think curing is more so if you’re smoking it. I’d just follow normal decarb and processing procedures
