Should a beginner fim/top and/or lst?

  1. I have to admit I'm intrigued by the techniques. Been reading threads on LST and 4-way topping and it all looks great. But I'm afraid of maybe biting off more than I can chew for somebody growing their first plants. Is this something I should even consider or should I wait until I have more growing experience?

One thing that concerns me about LST is when I switch pots. Right now my seedlings are just in starter cups and they are right at the point where I should take action if I'm going to.

So, in short, are both beginner friendly, should I skip both or just fim/top this time around? Thanks!

  2. Guess that's a no! :p Fimmed a couple. Gonna pass on LST'ing for now.

Check out my ladyburn thread mate my first ever grow topped and lst'd so easy and looks great 4 weeks till harvest and more buds than I expected id say go for it gotta start somewhere I suppose man, good luck

  4. topping/fimming/lst'ing, all a cake walk! all i ever do though is tie down. when cutting, you always slow things down for a few days, i don't like that!

  5. Thanks for the replies guys. I've got 6 plants on the go. Ended up topping 4 of them (the 4 least progressed) and I'll try LST'ing 1 of the one's I didn't top and another 1 I did and see what the end results are.

A little nervous about the LST'ing but I guess the only way to learn is to try it.

Checking out your Ladyburn thread now. Thanks!

  6. Actually, screw it. Decided to top all 6. Hope that wasn't a mistake.

I found a sweet 4 way lst tutorial on Google and I'm going to try it out. Guess we'll see what happens. :p

Happy days man as far as I'm aware some strains react better to others using certain techniques should be fine though makes you feel more involved too I think than just standing lookin at them lol

  8. Nice, good luck smokin! Plants look really good.

  9. The topping went pretty good for 5 out of the 6. For one of the plants though I dunno if I butchered the job or cut too high or what, but the stem sort of splintered at the top. I thought about trimming it again right then but I let it be and it looks like it's the farthest progressed but it looks so different than the others it's making me think it's probably the least progressed of the bunch.

Looks to me like just the leaves were chopped. I did cut at the stem, but like I said, it sort of splintered. Looked like a stack of nerves that got sliced open and spread everywhere. Really weird.

Picture of what it looks like now.

  10. That looks like you didn't completely pinch the growing top off and left some of the leaf material. HTH

  11. Figured that's probably what happened. Thanks for the confirmation.
