short question from an amateur novelist.

  1. Hello all, been preparing to start another novel recently but wanted to just get a couple opinions on an idea I was having first.

could a novel "work" featuring a byronic and a tragic hero alongside each other? Or does this just sound like a pair that couldn't work out together?

To make a long story short the byronic would be charismatic, confident, and flamboyant, the "alpha male" in most situations; yet still arrogant, emotional, and unruly. "Mad, bad, and dangerous to know."

The tragic would be a man with morally good intentions and virtue, one who "tried" to better his position and live by principles and morals; but because of flaws and fate his position becomes worse, perhaps dying, though "succeeding" in what he had set out to do.

Could a novel succeed with this pair as essentially the two main characters aside from the antagonist? Again, I know there isn't a set answer, just looking for opinions.

  2. yes, it could and has worked before.
