Shitloads of Fighting Between Georgia and Russia

  1. Russia Jets Bomb Georgia Oil Pipeline

  2. Here's a clip from Russian Today, a clear distortion of the truth and use of smear tactics.

  3. hmm ok. I thought it just supplied oil to western countries in general.

  4. yeah, what I think is funny is, they dropped over 50 bombs in that general area, and only 2 hit, talk about odds.

  5. Fuck Russia.

They do not care about the Ossetians or their desire to leave Georgia. There is zero chance of Ossetia becoming an independent nation, because the northern part of it is within Russia. Go ask Chechnya how Russia feels about secession.

South Ossetia is just a convenient excuse for Russia to invade Georgia and take control of an oil pipeline (one of the few pipelines to Europe that is not already under Russian control). Putin could very well have Europe by the balls if they succeed. Even if they do not simply absorb the whole country, there is no way another pro-West president is going to be running Georgia after this mess is over; some pro-Kremlin puppet will be installed instead.

Georgia is not completely blameless in this. South Ossetia is a tiny, mountainous, strategically worthless territory with few natural resources and like 70,000 people living in it. They clearly do not want to stay in Georgia, and the Georgians knew damn well Russia was not going to like it if they fucked with them. Saakashvili called Russia's bluff and now they are taking it up the pooper because of his strongheadedness. Apparently he also overestimated their closeness to NATO, because none of those countries seem very interested in intervening right now.

Regardless, the land is/was within Georgian territory, and the Russians should mind their own goddamn business. They can try to look like the saviours of South Ossetia in this, but their main intention obviously has nothing to do with liberating the Ossetians because they are already invading and bombing Georgia proper. The president of Georgia might be a total dick, but Russia has invaded a sovereign nation, and to me that makes them the King Cockfaces in this clusterfuck. If countries like Azerbaijan (the source of the oil in that pipeline), Turkey (in NATO, receive oil from that pipeline, and have hated the Russians for a long time), or the Ukraine (also strained relations with Russia) get involved in this then the shit is really going to hit the fan.

  6. Is Ukraine next?

    What will stop Russia?

Will NATO have to act militarily?

Is the U.N. done with their meetings?

All questions that need answers. Should be an interesting next couple of weeks.

One of the only reasons russia is actually using military force on georgia is because it is about to become a NATO ally.

Russia dosnt really have anything against Georgia, other then the fact that it will be a HUGE strategic inconvenience for Russia to have a NATO country right next to it.

It is unacceptable to Russia to be boarding a country which is NATO controlled (so to speak)

Russia needs to keep its "circle" of countries around it to protect it.

Plus who gives a shit about georgia? It would be better for the people of georgia in the long run to be a part of russia who is a major world power right now.

Think about it: Would you want one of our enemies occupying mexico?
We never have to think about these types of things because we are not in europe. If we were surrounded by other countries (besides the passive canada and mexico) then we would have a problem.

And what do you think the UN is going to do?

Nothing. they dont want to get into it. Its nothing to get into.
Whats the point of wasting military money on a doomed country anyway?
It sounds wrong but absolutely nothing will change if that country is taken over by russia.

Its part of the natural order of things. One, big country, is absorbing a little country next to it before it becomes a problem for the big country.

  8. It's like a tv show... I wonder what they will do for fall sweeps?

  9. Except bitching and moaning about how the west didn't help and Russia is a totalitarian government. Russia is Russia. The last question was more of a joke cause all the UN does is sit on their hands.

ok im not reading 70 comments so heres the thing:

Its between South Ossetia and Georgia. The fucking commies gave a part of Georgia to Russia, so now that theres no USSR, Georgia wants that part back. So they are slaughtering thousands of citizens in a place that has like 100 thousand people living there. every day. and the U.S. is shipping weapons/giving out soldiers to them. And Ukranian nationalists are also forming small groups of people and shipping them off to Georgia. the funniest thing is that most Europian and American news reporters are saying that Georgia is a victim in this situation, and that theres a fuckload of Russian soldiers in Georgia, fighting back. theres like 100 Russian peacekeeprs in Ossetia, and even those are being killed by Georgia's troops. oh, and Ossetia has pretty much no army hah.

The guy is paranoid as fuck cause he thinks Russia is after him

EDIT: im reading some of the comments, so i repeat, THERE ARE NO RUSSIAN SOLDIERS IN GEORGIA
and everyone whos going to be flaming my post: bring it

What are you some kind of conspiracy person?
That's what started this whole conflict...
Or are you looking at the two states and saying that the are not in Georgia because because the states aren't apart of Georgia. They're rebelling states, you cant rebel against something that's controlling you...
They are states in Georgia, and Georgia let them basically be semi independent when Georgia was formed. Think of them as the Virgin Islands to the States. If someone attacked the Virgin Islands, they would be attacking a territory of the United States intern attacking the United States.

  13. This is going to be a critical time in U.S and Russian relations. Theres been some higher than usual tensions running between these two super powers in the last few years. I just hope Russia doesnt put us in a position where we have consider military action which could effect much of the world and even sparking another WW.

Sounds abit skeptical, but you just never know..

  14. The tensions are between the Russian and American leadership, right?

  15. None of this makes any sense.

The BVI is not a territory of the US.

But lets just assume you meant to say Puerto Rico. Then it would be akin to the US bombing Puerto Ricans for wanting to secede, and Canada defending Puerto Rico.

Unless you meant the British attack the BVI?

  16. There are two groups of Virgin Islands, one administered by Britain and the other by the US. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Virgin_Islands

I agree that it was a strange analogy though. It would be more like if, Alberta decided they wanted to secede from Canada, so the Americans started handing out passports to everyone living there. Then Canada decided to launch an attack on Calgary in response, and the Americans came in and steamrolled us.

Actually, fuck these analogies. None of them make any sense without the underlying politics involved.

  17. Good point. I certainly see what you were getting at, though. :)

  18. Bad example
