Shell Piece

    So I was tokin' on the beach the other day and I found a nice chillum sized shell. First thought that pops into my head: "I can chief out of this!"

    So I brought it home; turns out my screens fit perfectly to make a nice bowl, so I wanna do it.

    I don't want to be inhaling random Lake Michigan toxic waste though, so I need to clean it. My question is, what can I use to clean out the shell best, that won't be toxic and won't mess up the shell? I feel like rubbing alcohol and salt might do something to the shell material.

    You can just use bleech and water if you're worried, it should be fine. Post some picks.

    Will that be allright to smoke afterward?

    bleach might ruin the color a bit, id say alcohol and salt would be decent, or hydrogen peroxide, thatd be perfect IMO.

    just rinse it REALLY well with hot water afterwards. and yes, post pics.

    Yeah, you might want to be careful with anything you wouldn't want to inhale. The shell might be porous, so it could be dangerous if you use anything you wouldn't ingest. You could try some really strong vodka or everclear and test it to see if that will do the trick. You could also try a soft bristled tooth brush, VERY GENTLY, to get the grit off of it, while rinsing with water. That's what I would do, but I would caution you if you're using stuff that's dangerous to ingest. Good luck, and it sounds like a bad-ass piece. Great find! :smoking:

    Sorry about the shitty quality.
    It's already looking fairly clean, I just want to be sure that there isn't some shit inside that hasn't come off.
    Got some bleach and water ready, but having second thoughts about that now... I'll try to look for some H2O2.
    Trying to decide if I should drill a choke in or not? Opinions?
    I think I'm just gonna boil it? That should work, right?

    OH MY GOD. I was JUST toking at the beach (Perfect new spot, pics in a few) and me and my friend were like, we should find shells and driftwood and stuff and make a sickkk beach piece. That's so perfect, more like a spoon than a chillum, but amazing find, it should cool the smoke in the spiral and hit perfecttt. And I would say no carb on it. Wouldn't want to ruin it.

    Haha yeah, I don't think turning it into a chillum would work to well anyways, I way just using it as a general size comparison.
    I'm gonna be testing it out as soon as I figure out how to best clean it

    If your having trouble with where to get peroxide, you can usually grab it really cheap at pretty much any grocery store if they have an isle that has aspirin and stuff. Pharmacy is also a pretty much sure thing. Alot of shells are porous so the peroxide would bubble whatever is in the pours right out. It ill probably be pretty damn clean and safe if you just boil it or wash it with vinegar even.

    Haha, thats a pretty creative piece right there. Maybe you can somehow glaze it with some sort of glass or material so it'll look all nice and shiny like a real glass piece. Sounds like that'd be a nice conversation starter though, enjoy your piece! :smoking:
