Open Cannabis Project Dissolves In Response to Controversy Over Ag-Science Company Phylos Bioscience’s Breeding Program. “We also feel we have been deceived. As a result, no matter what we do as an organization going forward, Open Cannabis Project will never escape this deception." https://www.wweek.com/news/business/2019/05/06/open-cannabis-project-dissolves-in-response-to-controversy-over-ag-science-company-phylos-biosciences-breeding-program/
I don't understand the controversy. Why is the Project upset about Phylos wanting to "launch a breeding program to create new, better strains of cannabis and hemp"? It sounds like a worthy goal.
Reads as though they expected their goal of 'open source' to be the reality of their future. My expectation has been, all along, that this will all become an agribusiness. But... what would I know?
Farms gave their genetics to Phylos in order to create a database. Explicitly stated they wouldn’t use for breeding program. Now phylos wants to use said database to create a breeding program and profit off of the original breeders efforts. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
