Typically run fems but decided id try some regs this time around got a few plants that are around 6-7 weeks. trying to sex them. looking for any tips or tricks. I know it can take awhile for them to show sex, but i got one definite fem out of the 5 so far. Looking for any insight to help me ID the rest. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
There's a whole sticky thread on the subject in the begging growing sub forum or w/e it's called: Sexing
Unfortunately/fortunately they all look pretty healthy besides one that got some abnormal leaf deformities guessing genetic mutations. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
I know, i know, haha i just hate waiting haha. Would love to pot up but don’t wanna waste time on the males. Hoping someone would give some magic advice that could help me ID the other 4. Got 1 so far with pistils, Guess ill just have to wait another week or 2 for the rest. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
If preflowers are pointed (no pistils yet) and the plant has tight internodes is that a good indication of fem or is it still up in the air at that point? Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Also i have 2 that are much taller than the rest with larger internodes guessing theyll be males but don’t wanna jump the gun just yet. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Not all plants will show preflower under veg lighting. Actually IME most wont, but that could just be the type of genetics I run A good way to do this without waiting for preflowers is to take cuttings and put them under 12/12 lights. You dont even have to root them prior, just stick them in a cup with some water and change the water daily.
The dead give away are the pistils! Lol. I run from seed every cycle and always sex in veg. Lackluster lighting will make it take much longer. The give away for males is a spade shape and a skinny stem holding it up. Males will have a roundish ruffled feathers look to them. Females will have a perfect oval, spear shape. Males on the other hand have this Woodstock haircut thing going on. Here's some modern art for ya.
Thought about doing that. just dont have the plant material to take cuttings yet. Would like to ID them before they’re that big. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
I need glasses. I thought this thread was titled, "Sexting Plants". No wonder, I never got a reply back on my phone...
Think Hey brother just wanted to say thanks again for the drawings because I think I might have em all ID now. The “ruffled feather” description you told me to look for on the males is what I’m going off of. You think that’s a dead giveaway?
I have noticed it usually takes 10-12 weeks to be sure of sex during veg - After 6 weeks you can take a clone and bud it(12/12)right away and get sex in a week or so from it
