Sewage aka Biosolids Contamination

Discussion in 'Growing Organic Marijuana' started by 4ala2sk0a, Feb 5, 2019.

  1. I just wanted to share this link I recently found that talks about the use of treated sewage being used to make bagged compost and soils.

These bio solids as they are called are full of nasty chemical residues and from what I understand are not really tracked or tested at this time; meaning you could be growing with toxic chemicals if you buy from poor sources.

  4. One day a year I have to work at a sewage treatment plant, and it's a nasty place. they haul truckloads of biosolids out of there, I asked where they were taking it to, they said it was going to farmers to grow animal food, and couldn't be used on crops for human consumption.

  5. I drove tanker for a local gas company. Occasionally I would have to pump septics.

We dumped it off in a large concrete agitation pool on a farm. They DID use it on crops intended for human consumption.

They've changed the regulations around here and he is no longer allowed to do that.

Moral of the story... I grow my own food.

  7. My state is on of the worst regarding biosolids and compost. Most states will at least require biosolids be labeled on the bag. Mine does not. Led me to do my own research awhile back.

  9. Would it surprise you if there was biosolid composting facilities in Fairbanks, Juneau, Seward and Kodiak?

Apparently guys load up the old pickup all summer long at this place.

  10. You learn some new shit everyday. Damn.

  11. Where I live we all have our own septic system, but unfourtantly we have PFAS in our water so we have bigger issues than just shit like this.

  12. I am surprised. We let the cruise ships just dump in the ocean, and you wouldn't believe what goes on in some remote villages.
    cheers

  13. I read about that too! I was still thinking about an Alaskan cruise for the honeymoon, but I may reconsider. Haven't drove the Al-Can since it's been paved.

  14. Its not the remote/ rugged deal it used to be, lots of RV's in the summer now. It is still pretty darn wide open out there. The cruise ships are like 'Vegas meets the Senior center'. I would fly into Anchorage and rent a conversion van, or do the Alcan. Its all about the timing in the summer. Just make sure that things you really want to do, are "happening" while you are here.
    cheers
