    Hello folks!

I found my self being locked down in a remote country away from civilization. But recently I've started setting up my own RDWC system with everything I was/am able to find. I have a few questions just to let me continue with an easy mind. Once I will start the heavy work I'm considering having a live journal here :)

I did this fast scheme to let us speak the same language:

My WATER PUMP has an AIR INTAKE, and during my tests I've seen it's oxygenating quite well. The flow rate is 2400 liters per hour or 635 gallons per hour.

    Questions:

Do you think that having some already oxygenated water crashing the water surface as in image A.a would change a lot the oxygen situation?

Isn't it better having a heavy oxygenated water flow directly from the bottom as in image B.b? Considering that once the roots will meet the flow, will this flow will be healthy for them? Will it give more oxygen to roots than the A.a system?

Is pebble a good media? I still have not found any Expanded Clay.

Is the level of the bucket as in the picture correct? Considering a good oxygenation and pebble as media?

Are 2 of those 100W enough for 4 plants and 150x150x200cm or 5'x5'x6.5'?

I will appreciate all suggestions and comments, Thank you in advance lovely people!

  2. I don't like the water level in the grow container ...its to high .
    Wow 635 GPH ??????
That's to much IMO ,, How many plants ?

Normally gravity drain system the grow container drain is the same level as the top of the reservoir
Unless you have a pump in the bottom of each grow container .

Me,,, i would never buy another DWC or RDWC store bought system .
I made a DIY DWC systems and never looked back .
Your going to most likely need a chiller too.

If your going to have your water level up to the bottom of the basket why not put in a air stone in the bottom of each container ?

I switch from aeroponic system to a 20 gallon bubblier system per plant .

System a on the Image you posted is the flow system you want ..

    Good luck

  3. 30 true watts per sq ft, dimmable, is what's needed.
With the very best LEDs you might be able to get by on 25 watts per sq ft.
At 25 watts/sqft you'd need 625 watts, or at least 3 of the 200 watt lights.
You should be able to get good LEDs for under $1 per true watt.

Any inert medium is fine for DWC, but most people use those clay pebbles (hydroton).

I'm not a fan of RDWC, because of its complexity, and use a gravity fed version instead, similar to GenHydro's WaterFarm8.

My experience is that water level doesn't matter much.
I've had mine anywhere from an inch below the bottom of netpots to 1 inch above net pot bottoms, and can't tell any difference.
I like to put seedlings into the system as soon as possible, so I let the water level keep the hydroton wet by having it above netpot bottom, which keeps Rapid Rooters (or rockwool cubes) wet.

  4. Had a busy day looking for some other stuff for the project. It's completely DIY, as I told I'm in a too remote plays to have an easy choice. I'm going with pebble so, and yes the pump is 640 GPH. I will definitely use air stones as well :) I will try to figure out my best with the lights! I will opt for one inch above the bottom of the pot! Yeah it's for plants system :)
so which flow system is better guys?

    I found those lights:
    200 Watts each
    80 Lumens/Watt
    216 led units

  6. Look at lights called Bestva on Aliexpress. I have those in 120x120 tent and they do amazing job.
