Self Improvement thread

Discussion in 'Pandora's Box' started by CheeseVendor, Mar 11, 2014.

1. So it has become that I am discontent with my life and aim to improve it through a technique which, to be honest, I'm quite afraid of. This technique being giving up the things I believe are holding me back from happiness, enlightenment.

Thusly, starting today I have given up the following in hopes of finding peace with myself
-Masturbation & Pornography
-Processed foods
-Tobacco (20 days strong)
-Internet surfing (still using it for school, this, and subsequent journals)
-social media
-Marijuana

I'll periodically (hopefully twice a week or more) update this as to feelings of improvement or inner peace

Some background info:
Smoking daily for 5 years
Masturbating almost daily from....well as long as i could haha
daily (1/2 pack) cig smoker for about 3 years
attending university, Junior year, age 21
eat pretty shitty, as I don't have alot of money and buy processed foods (bought)
got on facebook every day

I will also be reading a selection of classic novels (starting with moby dick) and meditating 30 min, 2x a day, once upon waking and once before sleep.

Mostly, I've made this journal to help myself keep track of any possible change/progress and to see if you, you great stoners, have any experience in such a spiritual journey, or wish to join me, or just have any advice/critique to contribute.

Thank you for the read blades and wish me luck!

Much love to all of you,
Cheesevendor.

2. i hope you go through with it. i quite understand

3. Good luck my friend. It's gonna be a little tough but once you start seeing improvement you'll be so ecstatic.

I myself have been trying to change my lifestyle but have realized it's a pretty difficult thing to begin.

I hope you stick with it because you'll love how you will feel.

6. I have tried this and trust me I would be surprised if you are going to take it as far as I did

7. I hope you do well bro, I did something similar early last year, broke up with a gf, quit weed, smoking, coffee and alcohol.

Lasted two months without weed, but still clean from everything else, and I can definitely say im happier and healthier.

Just a tip, if you dont already do it, start excercising daily, whether it be running, or like myself, weight lifting.

Gives you something to kill the boredom, gives you goals to work towards, gets you feeling better about yourself, and the natural endorphins released are always welcome.

honestly i just got out of rehab... in which i relapsed as soon as i got out. but the reason i dont think of it as wasted time is because i was actually pretty happy while i was in there. I had a lot of stuff that brought me down but overall i would play basketball, excersise, started painting, playing chess, socializing to a minimum, on and on. Find good healthy hobbies and people to do those hobbies with. it's seriously tough but it can be done.

9. @Torana
Thanks man, good to hear it worked out for you!
I'll start a work out plan, that's a great idea!

What do you mean? How far did you take it and what were the results, if you don't mind me asking?

11. Realization on unmentionables that quitting things will not improve my life or the man I am, only I can do that through self analysis and meditation. Still quitting all these things but that is such a small part of it, gotta get my life on track, learn and love. No more stagnation! gotta be a better person every day I wake up!

You're putting way too much on this. I know it won't help from everyone's perspective to tell you to do this. But stop immediately. 'Improve your life' is a terrible way of looking at it in my opinion. Setting these tiny random goals sets you up for failure because it's so much to focus on at once.

Find yourself a vision. What do you want to eventually be/do/have? Do you want to be a master of personality, a master of looks, have four houses in four different countries, own your own business, get the respect of all you meet, have enough money to roll around in playfully, have an awesome family with plenty of friends? Keep in mind you won't be able to have all of these.

Pick something like that then you can look at every aspect of your life as you go and say "Will that help me get to that final point I want?"

If you don't know what you want, I'd suggest looking inside yourself and seeing what makes you happiest when you think about it actually coming true.

Edit: My vision is to eventually buy my parent's house that I've lived in since I was five in a really nice suburb of my city. I'm going to knock it down and build a palace in its place.

13. I just want to be happy homie, no grand schemes, no great designs. Just be able to better love myself and my fellow man, and dare I say It's working!

14. I have tried a similar self cleansing as well however i found myself becoming unhappy. It seems like if you dont have a whole lot to occupy your newly created free time then your plan will end by losing motivation. Thats my experience anyways. I hope you keep us posted though OP seems like you will better yourself in the end.

15. Good look man. Meditation, once your used to it and into it is great for helping. I don't expect it to work for everyone but if it does you, then you will find this path a lot easier.

16. Well i have to say I'm feeling clear headed for the first time in a long time. Realizing that, in the words of Marcus Aurelius, "the happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts". I'm thinking better, and actually considering smoking herb a few times a week when I have all my obligations and work done.

Thanks for all the support blades, good to know people out there care and have done this themselves!

Keep on lovin life!

17. Good on you. I want to try to do a no processed foods cleanse but I'm waiting till my husband gets a steadier handle on the job thing because so many more groceries!

18. @[member="audiophile937"] Yeah buying organic whole foods has broken the bank kinda, but with all the money I'm saving on nugs and cigs it about balances out!

Just an update I'm feeling for the first time in a LOOONG time true mental clarity, I'm learning more in school, I've taken back up wire wrapping and playing the bass, I'm almost done with moby dick!

Things are lookin preeety sweet at this point, really learning to appreciate and be thankful for all that I have, and I'm so glad I caught these things while they were young!

One interesting tidbit is that pornography is now kinda repulsive to me, I mean i used to love the stuff but now it seems degrading and pointless, also Its officially 31 days since i quit smoking cigs! Yay!

\nThanks for all the support blades, so stoked on life right now! ps anyone going to rootwire or Eforest? If so pm me haha

19. Nice to hear that you are replacing bad habits with better ones. I am also in that process.
By taking baby steps, I've managed to curb pornography out of my life, to enhance my own sex life and to leave more to the imagination, and also to purify myself of negative thoughts. There's an amazing ted talks on this here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&persist_app=1&v=gRJ_QfP2mhU

What I've found to be helpful is to eat more of a plant based diet as it greatly increases your energy and chi.

Ive started to read more books and learning piano, and exercising everyday.

OP, check out Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu. He gives great advice on how to better yourself and thusly reflecting that on the outside.

One more thing, always visualize your success and the person you want to become. Become that vision.
Hope this helps.

Take care and grow!
