So I'm completely new to growing I've been a avid smoker for about 17 years. Recently moved and bought some land and lost my trusted connections as well. Decided throw some seeds into my gfs herb planters for the hell of it not expecting much. Out of 15 seeds all sprouted.(I may even be to late in the season here in TN) IMG_20190619_172819 by TheHumanClone posted Jun 21, 2019 at 11:42 AM I know there's to many per pot at the moment I did not expect anything to happen. However it did. I have two options either find a spot outdoors on my land and risk the animals/weather and the other problems I'd have to deal with. I was looking at this for a indoor grow obviously decreasing the amount of plants but I'd be able to use it year around. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07FF6PSW7/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=A1KTKW39RZBQC6&psc=1&th=1 Thoughts on this grow tent? Suggestions? I know the light might be an issue. But as far as the tent itself 32x32x? prob be the biggest I would want. I'm using soil as I am scared to attempt hydroponics until I have an understanding of the basics for caring for the plants themselves, I've read a lot of guides but seems like a lot I'm a as I do it hands on kind of person. Sorry for the wall of text, and thanks in advance for any help. -THC
thats an ok starter kit the light is meh and the tent is kind of short imo. You can run out of height pretty quick once you hang a light and the carbon filter. You will also want a oscillating fan
I agree with @pat at the beach that tent you will run into height issues. I think you can do better piecing it together. Lighting is the most important choice . Horticulture Lighting Group Premium LED Grow Lights for Agriculture These are the lights you should be looking at, and there is plenty of help on here for putting them together also
Since you have quite a few and you aren't interested in a larger tent, I'd recommend moving the best looking ones inside once you get you're indoors setup going and keeping the remainder outdoors -don't toss them. I'd also recommend transplanting them so there is only one per container and into 1-3 gallon containers towards the end of next month. This will help give their roots some room to stretch and fresh soil to pull nutrients from as they flower. They're young, but they should have plenty of time and sunlight to finish flowering. Just my 2¢ since you have the land. Best of luck
They look good if you do end up getting a tent I dont see any reason not to let the other ones give it there best go outdoors.
Thanks, brother! Right now, I have a Blueberry from Seedsman and Durban Poison from Dutch Passion in my flower cycle. I don't have any more recent pictures on my phone, but here is a bud shot from June 1 of the D/P. Next up for me is a Bangi Haze from Ace, an indica from another Spanish breeder, and possibly one or two others. I've been digging into some old D/P threads at ICMag, and I found a few comments from Sam Skunkman about when he, Mel Frank, and Ed Rosenthal (mostly Sam and Mel, apparently) refined those genetics. I love geeking out over genetics.
Thanks for the input I'll take it all in mind, I kinda figured I'd move the good ones in and see how the others ended up outside. I can go larger as in taller just not so much wider. What's a good height for an indoor? I'll start trying to piece together a setup I do have a budget so I'm all about what's cheaper.
Wow that is cool those guys are legends Is it actual back and forth in a forum like this? Man I love me some Durban Poison I've even got the seed pack from sensi in my "cart" . Only reason I have not is my space is small. I think someone should cross Durban Poison with Afghani . There are some close but not quite.
Nice, that's a good plan. In regards to indoors height restrictions, I went for a 4'x4'x6'8" tent when I first started indoors, and I felt the constraints with even 100% indica plants. Once I learned how to LST and groom my plants, that tent was much more forgiving. Soon though, I upgraded to the tallest tent that I could find in footprint I wanted (2'x4'x8'11"), and it is much more comfortable. Space for lights, fan, carbon filter, and a healthy distance between the lights and the canopy.
It's just Sam the Skunkman and other ICMag members, not Ed or Mel, but that forum is similar to this in its design, back-and-forth. There are some other familiar names over there though. I'm not a member there, just here at GC. It was great reading Sam's comments about the breeding projects he was involved in. Yeah, I'm definitely excited for the flower! I'd recommend picking them up and just trigger flower sooner. Eventually, I'll grow out the rest of these D/P beans, pick up some Cannabiogen Durban beans, and then pick the best and make some seeds. We'll see I'm looking at picking up a small 2'x2'x4'6" tent just for collecting and spreading pollen.
Just a few thoughts regarding indoor growing... 1) Soil vs Hydro: You're smart for going with soil. Hydro is a lot more work than people think. Plus, you just can't beat organic cannabis. If you start with a good potting soil base (like a Fox Farms) plus some dry amendments (Down to Earth has a lot of very good products) most of your work is done for you up front. 2) Budget vs. Premium Lights / Tent: It's gonna cost more for premium proven products, but the extra cost is well worth not having to deal with issues that come with budget products. A cheap tent with even a little bit of light leak can cause massive problems. You can't go wrong with Gorilla Tent. Same goes for quality lights. The Electric Sky 300 (as one example) is on the pricey side, but the beneficial results are well documented. 3) Environment: Maintaining proper air temperature, circulation and relative humidity are crucial. I don't care how much you spend on nutrients, soil, lights and a tent; if your air temp and relative humidity are out of whack, and you have poor circulation you will have poor results. Growing cannabis is not rocket science, but a lot can go wrong if you don't start with a solid setup. Keep us posted on your progress. It looks like you've got some healthy sprouts! What strains are you growing?
Yeah I'd buy it all separate. You can get a tent, 4" exhaust, carbon filter (if smell is an issue), and a couple oscillating fans (I like the Holmes lil blizzards $15 each) all for around or under $200 total if you shop around on Amazon. Then just get a good full spectrum LED light like the HLGs mentioned above....definitely the most important part P
Do you plan to top them and/or train them? There are many threads on GC and other places online as well as many videos if you need help with it but the idea is to grow short and wide exposing more nodes to the light keeping it short but yielding more per ft³ Sent from my SM-G965U using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Seems to get the right stuff I may have to continue with a outdoor gorilla style grow until I save up enough for each piece. it's my land but I still need it somewhat inconspicuous. I'll continue to look around for a good setup and the right price. I'm not looking for something huge even a mini grow would be fine i guess. Outdoors I have a lot of greenery/trees and a pond even but a lot of overgrowth around it and animals from deer to birds to snakes to rabbits and turkeys and prob a lot more I'm unaware of. Just more worried about wildlife/bugs/disease out there. Plus it's always nice for things to go a little quicker and I've just always wanted my own indoor. As far the as the strain I really wish I knew it was a baggy of stuff my gf been collecting for a little while before we moved. About 4 months ago I really didn't expect them to sprout at all didn't even do the paper towel trick just knuckle deep in some soil. I've never done it before but I have read quite a few how tos on it and did plan to try so until I see it in front of me idk how well I will succeed.
Good luck with your outdoor run. I’ve got bottomless containers and protection from animals is a must.
Nothing wrong with a micro / mini grow. If the garden is strictly for personal use a small grow can be the perfect solution. Sometimes the baggy of anonymous seeds collected over time works out very well. You might end up with some treasures.
I am an auto evangelest. Autos will perform very well for you with your outdoor deck and indoor options. Spend the money on good autoflower seeds and you will be rewarded with more dope than you can smoke very quickly. They can be planted in a staggered manner, like one per month or even one per week, and 110 days later you will be harvesting them on the same schedule. When you make a bad mistake another one will be there for redundancy. Nowadays old ladies grow them in pots on their decck and kids grow them in their basement. No tent needed. If indoors I suggest hlg qb lights. You also have the option to do some indoor/outdoor pioneer work since as far as I know that technique has not been perfected. Also, if you fill a 5 gallon smartpot with perlite and set it in a 16 inch saucer and plant an auto seed in it, you can have a lot of fun on your deck.
I was a little worried about trying it but I did and it worked very well for the most part..cannabis is a very resilient plant Sent from my SM-G965U using Grasscity Forum mobile app
I know some might disagree but here is what size I want to try for my indoor and I'd like a suggestion on a light that would work with this setup as well as anything else I might be missing. I am still going with the outdoor for some but I want something indoors for sure. I'd like to keep the light fixture within 100-200$ range if possible. Also is the fan to large for this? Should I go with a 4inch.
