Soaking seeds.. Seeds that sink early just after 6 hours what do I do leave them for the full 24h or take them out and start the germination process as I don't want them to drown or is it too early. They all floated at the start but I have a few that have now sunk just after 6...? Sent from my SM-G935F using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Its a good sign, i leave mine soaking in water for a couple days until they shoot a decent taproot, like 2cm long.
Oh really what just leave in water until they sprout? wait so do you not put them in paper towels after? I thought you have to soak them for 24h then put them in wet paper towels. Oh yeah an do the cups of water with the seeds need to be left in the dark as my arnt, was going to put them in the dark once I've put them in wet paper? when i pop seeds i take a couple paper towels get them wet and squeeze off excess water . put them on the bottom of a plastic sealable container drop the seeds get a couple more wet paper towels squeezed and cover the seeds. then i seal the container and put it on top of of my cable tv box. they usually pop in about three days. then i put them in soiled off we go!!
Okay perfect So do I not need to per soak? I was going do exactly this after a presoak apart from I was going to put a small heat mat under mine aswell as my germination rate is literally 50% and I don't understand why, always are top feminized autoflowering seeds for top money but past few times have had a 50% success rate. House gets cold so I thought the heat mat would increase my success rate and thought the coldness was my problem Sent from my SM-G935F using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Nah i dont bother with all that paper towel bollocks, straight to water and leave them there until they have a good 2cm tail, hardly nothing fails. @Progrouk
iive ive found it impossible to drown them i germed 3 in a glass left them for 14 days and the tails had grown up the whole glass and to top of water line
Wow! Never knew this, answer honestly what is your success rate is it 100%?? because mine is terrible using the paper towel method, do you have to pH the water when you do this? If so what is recommended? Do you leave them in the dark or does it not matter Sent from my SM-G935F using Grasscity Forum mobile app
100% so far honestly in a dark room room temp and room temp water no need to ph the water i put mine in a glass of tap water at room temp in the dark and leave it for 24 hrs have a look if its not sunk tap it with your finger it should sink place back in a dark room and check again 48 hrs after they sunk it can take between 24 hrs and 5-7 days to see the tap root but it will appear and then straight into a jiffy pellet cover lightly keep warm and moist and it doesnt need any light until the cotyledons open they need warm and moist
Sickman, absolute legend brilliant advice by the way! going to germinate every seed this way from now on thanks mate much appreciated. Sent from my SM-G935F using Grasscity Forum mobile app
My fastest was creme brulee auto, cracked and shot small tail in less than 24hour, left it in the water around another 30hours to wait for longer tail before i plugged it.
np bro leave the paper towel method back in 90s where it belongs although it can still germ seeds its a pain in arse you can do without
Easiest seed germination technique: 1. Plant seeds in Rapid Rooters, any which way 2. Cover seed hole with RR crumbles 3. Keep RRs moist 4. Wait for sprouts 5. Transplant into final destination when roots show, although the seed planting can be done in the final destination in RRs
