Seedling Question - First Grow

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by mimi, Apr 19, 2007.

  1. Hi, I'm on my first grow and my seedlings are at day four but their stems look purple to me. Did I do something wrong? Does it mean anything, or what could be wrong with my plants? Any ideas? They are under CFLs in Shultz potting soil - they are in the closet but I have a fan in there. The walls are white. I had a plastic bag over them at first but I took it off when I was supposed to. I haven't really watered them but one time, and I spray when the soil is completely dried on top. The lights are like, two or three inches from the tops, and the seedlings are only a few inches tall (not sure exactly how many inches), maybe three or something. What's the mystery on purple stems?

  2. I've heard it's just genetics. this is actually pretty common, but it's never slown my plants down.

  3. Look at the bag of shultz, if it has nutes added, it could be your problem.

  4. Okay, the Shultz has Extended Feed Plant Food in it, and the numbers on the back are 12-9-7. Am I killing my plants with this?

  5. yeah man.

I've gotten away with growing wh miniscule amounts of ferts in my soil. The bag said 0.04-0.2-0.04 I think. And even using that, is risky.

Get some new soil. I like using peat pellets and peat pots for starting. Easy, Cheap, And they offer easy reliable transplants.

  6. Okay, well I have peat pots for now. So the number I had isn't enough? The soil is supposed to be 20-15-15 or something, right?

  7. No, buy soil with NO ferts in it. Having ferts in it will kill it. period

You are the one who is to choose when to feed them after 3 weeks of growing , and in the flowering stage. So young they need no ferts

  8. Purple stems in seedlings are very common. Theres nothing to worry about.
