Here in zone 6 (and newly legal Oh-High-Oh!) I plan to run my first ever grow this spring by germinating inside (feminized Wedding Cake) with seedling going into 3 gal grow pot and transplanting ONCE into hopefully well-amended in-ground bed around May 1st. Have very specific question for someone with experience: if you had to choose between Fox Farm Happy Frog or Ocean Forest is there a better choice to use to start? If spending 4+ weeks in this pot will the root ball still have room and require nothing but water and light until in her new home of a rich living soil? Trying to not overcomplicate so appreciate some concrete advice.
If you’re gonna be transplanting seedlings I suggest coco loco with a seedling starter mix! I use Whitney farms seedling starter mixed with the coco! 25% seed starter 75% coco loco and the amount determined by the size of grow pot. Soak your seed for 24 to 48 then plant, some will put in paper towels but a good soak then plant always works for me. I got an auto and a phot going both in great health and I always start every grow this way! Good luck and happy farming and being a new grower I suggest u use this mix the entire grow Coco promotes a great oxygen root and flushing once a week replenish that oxygen! I got a GMO 8 auto that’s not even 2 months old but already close to 3 1/2 ft and gonna produce a great yield! Oxygen to roots is my secret to a big healthy yield
either one will be fine i would start no later than mid march with the geminating under some Led bulbs just use spring water and keep her warm i also suggest more than 1 plant if you are making a bed why not 4 plants?
Awesome. In terms of germination date, just didn't know how many weeks a 3 gallon grow pot can accomodate (allowing for outside bad weather, late frost, etc.). And, yeah, I plan on 3 plants to start. It would be nice to have extra seeds in case of failures or accidents and, of course, buying larger quantities saves money. For a small grower like me do you have a preference for how many seasons worth of seeds one can keep stored away without losing viability? Thanks
no problem with the 4+ weeks in a 3 gal pot till transplant. FFOF or FFHF will do. I would lean toward HF bc it is not quite as hot as FFOF and it has myco in it already. However, I have started many seeds in FFOF w/o a problem FWIW. Seeds if kept dry and at room temps will last for several seasons
i would not buy too many seeds nowadays they come in a few days so just do a lot of research before getting more seeds they can be stored for a year or two anyways
IMO, if you are growing photo's you will get some trimmings that could make excellent clones routinely, it would be a waste not to use them, so save yourself some $ & don't get too ahead of yourself on seeds. (easier said than done) I have poorer results with seeds older than a year??? YMMV
