seed surprise

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Outdoors' started by myrrhlynn, Feb 12, 2022.

  1. i've gone through about a quarter of my 2021 crop. until today, maybe 3-4 seeds total. then i break open a bud this morning and find this. weird. may not be obvious, but compared to seeds i've planted in the past few years, these seem quite a bit smaller.

  2. Maybe an insect coated in pollen from somewhere hit that bud. One of my eleven 2021 outdoor plants was loaded with seeds, the others just had an occasional seed. I can't figure it out. I didn't see any nanners and I looked closely and nanners wouldn't explain it anyway. A lot of the seeds were immature, like yours.

  3. Could be rhodelization where some nanners pop late in flower and fertilize some bud.

I believe if viable the seeds will all be female.

  4. Not exactly,3 of the plants I ran last year had seeds, I planted 4 and I found this yesterday IMG_20220216_092139074.jpg

  5. You probably got a little pollen from somewhere. It takes pollen from a male plant to make a male seed.

  6. You know I think it's the bees that do it or maybe hummingbirds. I have that same thing happens to me. I'll end up with a few late seeds that you never saw on my plants I've grown four different strains and they all turned out females. I'm now running the last of those seeds to see what we get.

  7. Pale small seeds means a late pollination and Rodelization is my first suspect if it's just a few seeds. If planting them shows them all to be female then your suspicions were correct.
There is a fine line between Rodelization and a Hermaphrodite. Feminization can help express that more undesirable trait I believe. One of the plants I've run recently crossed that line and 1 in 5 will be totally shot through with seeds. She dependably kicks out 20 seeds a plant and if you run them they are predictably female but you'll get a prize in every other box.

The last of her seeds hit the trash last week. I am done with her shenanigans.
Unfertilized Female Cannabis wants to reproduce. Eventually if let go long enough they should all Rodelize. We just have to keep a watchful eye for ones that have crossed the line.
