Seed sinking immediatly?

  1. Ok I know its common knowledge that (using the cup method) that a seed should float for a while then sink once its absorbed water, and from this point you can either move on to the paper towel technique, or just let it stay in the water till the taproot shows.

However what does it mean when a seed sinks immediately? I've heard that this means the seed is damaged, because its obviously not absorbed enough water for planting.

I would like to know for sure why some seeds sink immediately, and what that means for the health of the seeds.

    Thanks guys!
