So, I am currently about to start my first grow... just finishing up building the veg and flower boxes now. I live alone and work during the day, so I am concerned about bad things happening with the grow while I am away, like a fire. I am setting it all up in a closet in a spare bedroom in my townhouse. I bought this cheap webcam and had an idea. I am thinking of setting up the webcam to broadcast live feed of my grow so I can watch it from work and if something happens like a fire or something where I need to go home fast I will be able to leave work and hopefully be able to get home in time to stop a fire from burning the place down. Do I really need to be this concerned about fires? What about when I have to go out of town and the lights have to be on the timer without me there? Has anyone ever thought of using security cameras to view their grow while away? I am thinking of posting the live cam feed through a website I host and build and have it have password access of course so I can view the cam from anywhere by going to my site. Any thoughts? Suggestions?
I would be more worried about somone hacking your site (like cops) and finding out where you live and busting you. If you are worried about a fire they have extinguishers that are pre set to go off and put out a fire in a normal size room when temps get too high.
as long as it dont record, i guess is all good!. But u never know. fedz have high skill people who can hack n record ur data. it can be use against u.. what ever u do. just think it throgh!
Oh that's great, I had not heard about self extinguishing fire extinguishers. I would not be showing the actual green in the video feed. I would either show the closet door or the closet door opened so if a fire occurs I will see it.
Feds need a warrant to "hack into your website." It's the equivalent of entering your home or property that you own, and searching for evidence.
I'm pretty sure they don't need a warrant to hack your comp. A home yes a comp I'm not so sure. There's always a risk of a fire when you got lights running from a extended period of time and hot ballasts. Like said above whatever you decide think it through.
I use a web cam fro security reasons but it is set to motion detection and only take pictures every 5 second if something or someone is in the room. As long as you are using the right equipment and didnt ghetto rig anything poorly a fire is one of your last concerns (unless you are doing a huge dangerous grow). I would be concerned with thieves and cops before fire. Its kinda like worrying about your microwave or a space heater causing a fire easily. Plus honestly if you do see a fire while you are at work you would be stupid and selfish to your neighbors if you attempted just to get home before it kills people rather than calling the fire department and in turn going to jail. So either way if you videotape and watch and see a fire you should call the fire department rather then attempting to race home and put it out. Plus whats the likeliness of watching as soon as the fire starts. IM guessin either you wont see the fire or you will see nothing because the fire already burned your camera. Nonetheless fire should always be any farmers concern however realistically its one of your least concerns. Still I would get a camera for peace of mind of knowing whats going on in there when you arent there...maybe a "friend" snuck in and cut a few buds...and now you know whos toes to break. I like the peace of mind of my motion camera but realistically i know it wont prevent any fire or the harm a fire will do long before ya get home. And i am far to paranoid to be posted my IP address along with video of illegal things on any internet whether or not a cop needs a warrant to "hack" into it. I dont trust cops because they are cops. And even if they "have" to follow the law once in court they could break the law find out you grow and then get a warrant so it appears they followed the law even after breakin it...ya see what im saying?

Well even if ya dont show green wouldnt ya say its a dick move to put it in your hands to attempt to race home to put out a fire that could burn down neighbors town homes...town homes are damn close to each other. And I wouldnt risk killing someone in attempt to get home before someone notices it. The best thing you could wish for is that you would be the one to call 911 from your work and save your neighbors but also go to jail...its one of the shitty parts about this business. Just because we smoke doesnt mean we arent good people with morals that will turn ourselves in before letting our neighbors house burn killing their 3 year old daughter...ya know?
I am not an immoral guy... I just can get home in less than 2 minutes. If it was big enough to hurt people, of course I would call the Fire Dept.
