Security and Privacy question

  1. Once you recieve a doctor's recommendation and you enter their database, is there any way my employer can find this out? My department is not safety sensetive, so they would not test me without cause, but could my company somehow find out?

  2. Nope,AFAIK the records are completely sealed.

  3. No, Federal HIPAA laws protect your patient status.

  4. You need to very carefully read both your employment agreement and your HIPPA statement from the Dr.'s office. Your medical info can seep into areas where you don't think it could. Different Dr.s offices can interface and gather/share the info on your record. Don't forget, people talk where and when they shouldn't. I have been in the medical field for nearly 30 years and I know of a few cases where a worker was loose with their lips. Sure they got fired, but the info was "out there". If your dr's office leaks your info there will be trouble for whoever does it (if they get caught), but you may be fucked too. You could go to court, but in the meantime you will have a lot of hassle to deal with. People are people and people shoot their mouths off when they shouldn't. Your greatest risk though is in the fine print of the privacy agreement.
