Okay, so I have a question. I really want to grow marijuana, but I don't want anyone to know. I live in a secluded area, with 14 acres of land surrounding my house. Is it possible to have a successful grow if I germinate a seed, go plant it in some soft soil and water it every 3-4 days? I don't want to use ferts or nutes because I have no money for any additional supplies, all I have is about 20-30 seeds and the great outdoors. Is it possible to just plant the seed, water every 3-4 days, and get a decent amount of bud later in the year?
If you are not going to use any ferts etc then it's going to be down to luck. As for watering every 3-4 days it really depends on your climate...
It is possible tho. Look into getting some nutes for better results tho man. They don't cost too much at all.
Try digging up the area you want to grow in, get out rocks, sticks, ETC. Drainage is your main concern. Does the soil in your area have a lot of clay? If so, mix in some kind of drainage substrate(Perlite, Vermiculite, Sand, ETC). Then put it back in.
I agree with this EXCEPT for adding sand to heavy clay soils. Sand and Clay will make bricks. Instead, work in composted vegetable or animal wastes. (composted leaf litter, lawn trimmings, manure, etc.) that will help lighten the clay and provide spaces for the roots to grow through.
I'm around central texas, I will not give anywhere specific, but the soil is rocky and i have already dug out the rocks in the place i plan to grow. The soil is fine and black where I'm going to grow, and there are very many trees surrounding the patch. I may have to put up a bit of chicken wire to keep rabbits away, but im pretty sure once the plant is bigger than a foot tall, the rabbits wont want it anymore. EDIT: another thing I'm thinking of doing is just putting it in a fairly large cup with soil in it, and letting the plant grow to a decent size then I can just transfer it into the actual spot.
does it hold together any when you squeeze a handful? I can't think of any soil that would not benefit from compost. (rotted organic material)
Yeah, check the soil by scooping some up and trying to make a snowball(with dirt). If you succeed, you need drainage. If the ball just falls apart, the soil is perfect.
Yeah, I cannot keep the soil together, it is really fine soil. It's almost completely black. It's almost just dark sand basically.
sounds like it needs organic matter. potting mix, composted manure, regular ol garden compost, anything to add tilth
Where do you live? I don't even grow yet but you at least need to let them know what the climate is like. I checked the thread because I'm also interested in starting something similar. P.S. The basic fertilizer/nutes aren't all that expensive, how can you not afford any of it? Even if you're just growing bag seed you probably need to do more than stick it in the ground and water it if you want to get results.
you can plant as soon as its done freezing at night, but in the south you cant harvest until oct/nov/dec so you really dont need to plant until april/may/june/july. It dont matter too much when you plant them, but when you plant them determines how big they will get and thats directly related to the yeild. planting early pro's: bigger plants more buds if you fail you probably have time to start over and still get a good crop. planting early con's: bigger plants easier to find moar work. etc, etc, sry busy rollin, someone finnish my post.
I think he's referring to the fact that in the south the days don't become substantially short enough to induce budding until later in the year.
Alright. I'll probably just plant a few soon just to see how well they grow at this time. And then I'll be able to start growing seriously.
