Searching for the Elites. 3 Grow's (Production and Breeding)

Discussion in 'Indoor Grow Journals' started by Elite Nugs, Oct 22, 2011.

  1. Yet another forum Im now on.....

So I started this thread to help people, answer question, show some of my work and hopefully meet some new growers in my area. Im a beginner breeder... formally just a pollen chucker, but now Im actually going to give selective breeding a shot. Im always looking for new strains and Im currently on a hunt for males.

For you haters out there... Please find another thread to hate on, your not welcome here. If you want to argue with someone, please dont bring your BS to my thread. I only speak what I know... not what I've heard someone else say. If you dont like my techniques, or how I grow, then roll out.

Anyway... feel free to ask me questions. Whether its on topic or off topic, I dont care. Post any pics here, if you find it necessary.... I dont mind that either. I'll try to keep things updated here, but I am very busy and will usually disappear at times, usually due to trimming (i hate trimming).

As of right now I have 3 grow spots. A spot for mothers and plants that I received that aren't doing so well and need extra care. My other spot is a 2 light testing spot, where I first test any new strains I get in, to decide whether there keepers or not. Then my last grow is a bigger production grow, that you wont see too much of, because Im unaware of the security of this website. (For security purposes, I will say that I access this website through randomized IP address' that will usually switch every time I log on here.)

I'll be updating my testing area the most, and posting random pictures here and there. So feel free to hit me up.

  2. Damn... pictures are way too big.... Anyone know how to resize them, just for the thread??

  3. To get things going a little... here are some pics.....

My small but very effective testing area.... For all new strains, including some soon to come small breeding projects.

    Here's some equipment pics....

I made my own 16 light controller, instead of spending a grand on a shitty pre-made one.
    IMG01475-20110804-1213.jpg

    Contactors.... 4 lights per contactor..
    IMG01476-20110804-1656.jpg

100 pint commercial dehumidifier. PIECE OF SHIT!! Never buy one of these!! I bought this new and it didnt work right out of the box. Manufacturer had me waiting about a month before I could even get my money back. I lost out big time because of high RH levels.
    IMG01612-20110826-1306.jpg

TrimPro. Works.... but Im very glad I bought it used. I would never pay over $2K for once of these. HUGE waste of money if you pay retail price on one of these. They work fine, but totally destroy buds. It like throwing your buds in a tornado, where there slammed up against metal a could hundred times. Its good for maybe a mass production kinda line, where your not growing top shelf buds, but now when you want good looking medical buds.
    IMG01730-20110923-1751.jpg

I saw some crazy diagram on a thread here of some guy trying to show another how to properly install carbon scrubber.... just do it like this and let it run 24/7. No need for ducting and all that craziness. If you exhaust your room, then another filter at your exhaust is always a good thing to get the smell this one misses.
    IMG01613-20110826-1306.jpg

Predator mites.... they dont work... dont waste your time and money on em. I tried them twice... will never try em again... Lady bugs are good though, but not for spider mites. Nematodes too, for soil borne pest.

  7. Amazing bud shots, nice a large. You have a bit op going there man, must be hell on the power bill? You have five lights daisy chained on easch side? Do your last two lights ever burn out?

  9. Yeah.... 5 lights in a row. I have a 12" fan pulling air through the reflectors, so you can touch the glass on the reflectors and its cool to the touch. If you use a smaller fan to pull air, thats when you get that bad heat build up towards the end of the line and have shorter bulb life. All mine run nice and cool.

Electricity bill isnt too bad. Around $1,500 a month.

  10. And some more buds shots... then Im done for now...

  11. $1.5k thats pretty hefty. Cold to the touch, thats awesome the glass is cool to the touch. How much wattage per light? You do all soil?

  12. All lights are 1000. I dont mess with anything smaller then that. Yup... you can touch the glass on the first 3 reflectors and they actually be cold. Raptor reflector are pretty big, so all that extra space gives the bulb enough room to dissipate some of its heat, before it starts heating up the glass. And before it even has a chance to heat up the glass, the air flow through the reflectors is so strong, it sucks all the heat through.

No soil, all hydro. I love soil, and grow my own personal stash in soil, but you just cant get the yields from soil that you can get with hydro. But at the same time, Ive found ways to get my hydro buds much more tasty then other peoples hydro stuff.

  13. Yeah, i guess a 12inch fan moving air would be perfect. Ive never heard of Raptor hoods, do you have a possible link? Do you reuse the heat from the lights at all? Personal i think hydro is awesome with many plus's to it over soil. Ive grown 5 times out of soil, and the crap i had to deal with after wasnt wurth my time. You can only put somuch soil into a garden... lol not to mention Hydro is super clean and easy and you can reuse the clay. Any chance you be willing to part with your tasty hydro bud formula? ;) Reguardless, im excited to learn more about breeding. You and i are the same in this aspect. Always looking for bigger and better and is it possible to breed them. You do feminized at all? or straight up old school?

  14. Just google Raptor Reflector. Over here in Southern California there are only a handfull of manufacturers. Each of them have a series of really big reflectors that are made for wide coverage and able to be placed very close to plants. HydroFarm are the guys who make Raptors. Sunlight Supply makes a Magnum series and CAP makes some XXXL Lumenair reflector... or something like that. Raptors are the best in my opinion.

Yeah... you can reuse clay, but its really tough to get all the roots out of that stuff, so I usually only use them for 2 grows, then toss them.

The only time I'll make feminized seeds, is if its one of those clone only strains, that dont have a male to go with it. I'll make S1's or I'll cross pollinate with another clone only female.

Old school strains are the best strains to work with. If a strain has been around the block and has been crossed with tons of other strains, the genes in that plant are so mixed up that you wont get anything thats really stable. You can still get really good results from strains that have been crossed with a bunch of other one's, but when it comes to selective breeder... it makes things much harder to work with.

Thats why when you look through seed companies strains.. the majority of them are crossed with some type of Afghani, Northern Lights, Skunk etc.

  15. You got skills bro. I'll be picking your brain now and again. I'm loving some of your techniques.

  16. You Sir are an inspiration to me, I set a goal is simple Grow Buds just like yours ! :D I'm Subd

  17. Thanks man... Hit me up any time.

Thanks man... Just strive to grow them healthy and dont listen to any of these children around this site that try to talk about easy fixes, or miracle nutrients. There are none. Concentrate on the root zone and hit me up if you have a question. I've been seeing a lot of bad info going around this site.

  18. Ever grown a top shelf strain such as Dr.Grinspoon? I understand it produces little but its the top shelf quality im interested in.

  19. Nope... never grew anything like that one. I dont think I've even seen it grown. I was curious about that one a while back, but there are too many other strains out there that will have the same potency and give an average yield.

Right now Im getting ready to test some new stuff I got from a SoCal breeder named OGRaskal. He has a strain called "The White" that is used in a lot of breeding projects around CA. So I have those and another from him called "White Fire". There supposed to be some really good stuff. Then I'll be getting some exclusive genetics from another breeder that works with a cross of a fabled strain called Alien Technology.

I still mess with the big seed banks though. I've gotten some really good stuff from them. Barney's Farm, Cali Connections, DNA, Subcool and DinaFem are probably my favorite breeders to buy from.

This is what Im currently running. All top shelf stuff.

    Master Bubba Kush
