Scrog Screen Design and Height

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by weishen1121, Apr 23, 2016.

  1. I'm trying to setup a scrog in my 2x4x5 tent and I almost have everything up and running.
Going to have 2 plants in separate 5 gallon buckets.

I think I overestimated the amount that would be lost due to bucket and hood/filter but basically..
I have ~25 inches from the glass of my air cooled hood to the rim of the buckets/hydroton.

How high would you guys recommend making the screen from the rim of the bucket/hydroton?
Planning on using PVC and mounting screen directly onto lids. *if anyone has some plans for PVC screens, please pm me!

Do I need to keep cutting the plant if it exceeds a certain height during veg? Which height would that be?

  2. Not sure why you are wanting to start out at the very beginning with a scrog. They are very labor intensive, time consuming and take up a lot of room and you're only working with a 2 x 4 space to start with. If you have little or no grow experience, you would be better served by just growing out a couple of plants in soil and spending this time learning about the plant rather than dealing with a scrog too. You don't mention above what type light or wattage you're using for veg so there is no way to make a guess about anything concerning it. If you're unsure about any of the growing process, go to the new grower threads and read the "sticky's" for new growers. You need to understand how to grow these inside. If you don't, you'll be on here regularly with questions. Read up on how you should do this before you get too deep in. TWW

  3. This man knows. If you're still intent on getting fancy right away, not try fimming, topping and some simple lst methods?

Here's a pic of my DIY flood table and scrog net i built to fit in my 4x4x7 tent. I'll have to cut down the tables legs for next grow but it worked amazingly up thru week 4 of flowering, at which point i ran out of headroom and had to remove the table and screen.

Total time to build everything was ~8hrs and $60 including the water&mold-proof lining the plants sit on.

  5. What's so hard about tucking branches underneath a net for an even canopy? It's the lowest form of stress training there is.

  6. I went ScrOG on my second real grow. I read my balls off before I did it. Learned a TON by just searching these forums. They were so helpful that I joined and started contributing to the community.

So bounce around these forums and see what you can find. Since you're asking about your screen I will direct you to this thread.

    Post those SCROG screens

Also, here are a few pics of my screen setup. When I built my base for my trays, I put offsets in the corners for the screen posts. This way the screen stayed where it was supposed to but I could easily adjust the height by using different length PVC. I then went with a wood frame on the top to make it easier for my i-hooks for the string.

  7. Well I've been reading up a lot and it seems like scrog would be perfect for a small area... and honestly the LST looks a hell of a lot harder than the scrog. I can't imagine tying string to a branch and then somehow mounting it onto the lid but with scrog it seems like all you need to do is start tucking in branches under the net as it grows. But you are right, I have found a few good guides and books on growing and have been reading them, but I need a lot more to cover. I really wanted to start with Hydro because it seems like the only way to go. Soil takes way too long and hydro produces better results in the end.

Also I'm planning on using my 400w HPS light throughout the whole grow. I'd like a Hortilux bulb or maybe even CMH but I just have a starter kit for now w/ the aircooled hood and 400w HPS/MH bulbs. I would use the MH for veg, but I totally fucked up with the hood. The glass has to actually be removed manually by sliding out, there is no "door" that just unlatches.. so everything has to come down since it's such a small space and there is no way I could pull that glass out otherwise.. so I def have to think about getting a new hood in 1-2 grows so I can actually start using the correct bulbs, but for now just 400w HPS all the way through. I've read up a lot about how it can be done with pretty damn good results.

I believe I still have to top and fim because that will be what promotes the actual multi-node growth. I'm a bit scared but I have been reading guides over and over and have bookmarked everything w/ pictures.

Those scrog screens and plans for 1000w grows look so freakin awesome... I want to achieve those levels and so much higher. I would love to get 2-3 huge tents, mid-size maybe and one small one for a mother and clones. I really love everything I've been reading so far and it really seems like a fun project all around. I really hope I can get up to your guys level one day! Thank you for stopping by and posting pictures.. really made me even more motivated!

Also, here are some pictures of what I have already done..

The hood/fan/filter combo was totally off my measurements. I ordered mostly everything online and started planning before I actual had the equipment.. bad idea haha. But I still managed to get the bulb dead center with the grow area.. check out the bulb location and the intake location, pretty much center of tent. Got real lucky there.. but then I lost a lot of vertical space w/ those light hangers... I'm thinking if it gets too bad during flower I could always try to get some sort of heavy duty clips and try to mount the hood directly onto those bars.. might be a bit tough but.. we'll see! That's why I really wanted some advice here on how far away to build tent/how high to veg etc.. I'm still a bit confused. Anyways.. that's enough wall of text for now.. sorry guys!

Thank you for all the support so far.. these forums are super populated vs other ones I've been to so far. You guys seem to know a lot more about what you're doing too.. keep it up!

  8. I just checked mine again and I have my scrog about 6 inches above my 5 gallon buckets

Damn man your grow looks fuckin awesome.. that baby looks so great in that screen!! You did such a great job man. Wow.
But damn you have a 7ft tent and have the screen 6 INCHES above the bucket??
Damn my 5ft tent is not gonna really work huh.. ugh :\

ugh I dunno I guess I'll make the screens come up 4in from the lids or something..

  10. I have the same size tent, use two 5 gal. buckets (soilless mix) and two screens. I use LEDs but I still wish there was more headroom.

    From a previous grow....

  11. Scrog is easy and a good way to control height and maximize yield in small grows.

  13. Pretty creative the way you made you made the plant support out of pvc. I wanted to do something like that but figured I'd need like 2.5" pvc to support 6-7 plants at which point its almost cost ineffective
