SCROG backroom garage grow

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by chiefton8, Jan 3, 2018.

  1. Two years ago I bought a house with a detached garage that happened to have a storage room in the back. So I put in a bunch of new electrical (all to code), heating, cooling system, replaced moldy drywall, painted all the walls and ceiling, added insulation, and installed a bunch in rubber flooring...now it's the nicest room in the house. :love-m3j:

    Setup:

    4x4x7 tent in a 10x10x9 room.
    solis tek ballast
600w solis tek 4000k MH for veg (5 weeks)
    600w Hortilux HPS for flower
    Air cooled 6in blockbuster hood
    fox farm ocean forest soil
    5 gallon smart pots
RO water (0ppm before nutrients added...fucking love RO water!)
Nutrients: Fox Farm Grow Big and FF Tiger Bloom and CalMag

    Currently growing 4 females:
2 x Serious Seeds Ak-47 (from reg seeds)
2 x TGA 9lb Hammer (from reg seeds)

I originally started with 5 x AK-47 and 5 x 9lb hammer seedlings. Weeded out the weak ones and males. Settled on 2 females of each strain and put in screen for a final week of veg. Here they are at 1 week of flower.

I have the plants elevated on a drip platform of sorts so that all runoff drains into a small container on the side. Makes cleanup easy after watering. Intake air blows from underneath the plant platform, up through the canopy to the outtake which is at upper corner of tent.

  2. Looks really solid. Will you have enough head room though with all the stuff on the bottom.

You are right...height is an issue with all the stuff on bottom.

Screen is key in this case.

I've got about another foot I can raise the hood which should be sufficient. Last year I did not do screen which was tight. This year should be ok. The loss of height room from the platform doesn't outweigh the convenience of easy water cleanup and good airflow deliver under the canopy imo.

  4. Nice!

  5. What's your watering and feeding schedule? I've used FFOF and have burned plants with light use of nutrients. I was thinking of getting rid of bottled nutrients and going organic. Also, why not vent to the outside? I see you are exhausting to the inside of the garage. Nice setup, BTW.

  6. Scrap the tent and use the whole room! Lol
Set up looks really good bro, scrog looks awsome, I'm here for the ride!
No big bloom to finish off the FF trio?

  7. Thanks man.

Watering right now is 1gal per plant every 2-3 days. A lot of water evaporates from the fabric pots for sure. This is my only complaint about fabric pots. But they do grow better plants imo.

I've been quite happy with FFOF honestly. Never burned a plant. I don't feed any nutes for quite a while though (0ppm RO). Typically my rule of thumb is ~1gal of soil lasts 1 week for fast growing plants. So being in 5g pots I didn't feed them until about 5th week of grow. I measure the ppm's of the run off water to get a sense of how much they are eating. The first nute they tend to run out of seems to be always be calcium. I start with calmag first then go up from there.

Funny you ask about venting outside. I have a vent that I can attach the outtake ducting to vent outside when temps get too high. But if I did that all the time the temps would drop way too much. It's winter here lol. So most of the time I vent back into the room to supplement the heat. And when it gets too hot (>78F in tent), I have another intake fan that kicks on to blow cold outside winter air into the room. It runs pretty frequently actually so the room gets lots of fresh air.

Lol i know what you mean man! I've thought about using the whole room for the grow and no tent. Thing is I just don't need that much weed. :)

No big bloom yet. I have some that I may use later. I've used it a lot in the past but for some reason I'm thinking of seeing how they do without it.

  8. I had a similar setup with a 4x4 tent in a 12x6 room. Vented right into the room. However, even with a new carbon scrubber, my house would smell during late flower. I was running around with Ona gel and managing who came in and out of the house and when. Real pain in the ass and the primary reason for me taking a break from the hobby.

  9. Here we are at 5 weeks flower.

I had to cut one of the AK-47s a week ago due to hermie issues. Can't have that kind of riff raff going on in my grow space.

The remaining AK47 (back left) and two 9lb hammers (back and front right) are doing great. Maybe a little light burn on the leaves closest to the light. Can't lift the light any higher so it is what it is. They sure went through a big stretch.

    Probably another 4 weeks left.

  10. Damn,, you got to much money too? ;)

Unlucky on the herm dude, the others are coming along very nice though. I've never seen so many yoyos lol.

What's the most you've pulled with the 600. We have basicly the same setup but im still very new. My most is just over 400g but I've never let them get as tall as yours..

  11. I'd be interested in your grams per wattage average as well:smoke:

  12. Looking good. My last two grows have been all organic... I've had a couple of different deficiencies on different strains, which has been a challenge..... everyone gets the same of everything, but they react very differently... hard to figure out what's what... I hated working with chemical nutes, and feel better using Neptunes Harvest, worm castings, kelp, dolomite, lobster compost etc... Sorry about the hermie. My first grow... 6 plants, had one plant that dumped a bunch of seeds on me.... I was shocked when I was curing and found them. I'm currently a week into 12/12 with an LST grow of 4 plants here... 13. Nice that's how i like to grow ATM only plain watering for the first 6 weeks piece of piss no hassle.

I'll always take the lazy way first. Ha

  14. lol yeah mean i wish! I'm a frequent smoker but not high volume. Being in a legal state I grow because it's fun not because I have to. :)

this is only my second 600 grow. i did 4 years with a 250 and 4 more with a 400 before moving up to 600. last time i got 16oz/450g with the 600. this year i think I'm on target for a similar harvest, maybe slightly more?

yeah last year was about 0.75 g/w. that was with 5 plants, 4 weeks flower no scrog, 3 gal pots. this year i've only got 3 plants but are in 5 gal pots vegged for 5 weeks and scrogged...i suspect it'll be a bit more yield this year but i'm terrible at guestimating. :smoke:

looks awesome man. well done. yeah those hermies can really sneak up on you if you aren't paying close attention. 10 years ago when i started growing i never had hermie issues or unexpected seeds. now days it's not unusual to see them even with regular seeds and perfect grow environment. the ones that throw out a couple nanners late in flowering aren't such a big deal. it's the ones that grow legit ball sacks at the nodes starting 2-3 weeks in flower that are the real trouble makers.

totally...i love the first 5-6 weeks of the grow. no hassell, no thinking just cruise control and a couple of transplanting sessions. weeks 3-7 of flower are always the busiest with watering and making nutrients which is where i'm at now. just a couple more weeks to power through then downhill from there. :love-m3j:

  15. Here we are at 7 weeks.

I think the 9lb hammer has got two weeks left. The AK47 probably has 2-3 weeks left. Hard to say.

Leaves are canoeing a bit probably from the light being a bit too close. Oh well. Otherwise they look good.

Starting to lower the nutes now too.

  17. 8 wks flower

About 50% cloudy. Wife has ordered a more amber harvest this time around. So probably another week...maybe more.

Lowering nutes. 0ppm RO water + nutes to ~150-200ppm. Basically at tap water levels.
