Screen to prevent roots growing?

    Setup: Ebb n Flow
    Problem: Roots keeps growing down through the pipes and clogging up everything

    Question: Is there anything that can be used (such as screen) that will prevent roots from growing through but will allow water to pass?

    It's a tough problem to say the least. I placed multiple swatches of screen (normal window stuff) hoping it would hault the growth but, as you can tell, it really didnt help at all.... :(

    Any ideas?

    adding industrial strength bleach or concentrated nitric acid to ur solution will stop roots growing ;)

    (that's a jk btw - pls don't actually try that ffs!)

    hahah... I'd laugh more, except this issue is starting to starve the plants and killing them. :(

    maybe flood more often or for longer? The roots are obviously looking for water.
    If u give it to them they have no need to go searching for it....... :eek:
    Know what u mean tho m8 - I've seen it in drains where roots have burst through clay pipes & spread for 30 - 40 metres.
    Putting a fine gauze up will only lead to flooding.

    Hmm, this is an interesting point. Right now they're flooding 15mins every hour. Root issue didnt begin until flowering phase started - then they just went nuts.

    My only fear in flooding for longer would be drowning them...as I thought I was flooding quite a bit more than most already.

    I'll give it a try and bump it up to flooding 30mins every hour and see how that works.

    U have a bubbler in ur reservoir??
    As long as there's plenty of oxygen in the liquid u won't drown them.

    Yeah, you definately are going to need more water. They're beginnning to bud so they're going to be using a lot more food and water to build itself up. I say day by day increase the water amounts until the roots are no longer a problem.
