  1. yeah i know cree also makes good leds, i got these since i already had the neosol and i was happy with the results, plus if you buy a 25 pack on amazon they are very affordable.  yes the panama pregnant that i posted a couple of posts ago is under my diy. you can see the light is more purple then whats in the flowering space.

ill snap a pic for you tomorrow its lights out now anyway ;)

Hey Scoobie, things are looking great! I'm interested to see how your big pot comes out with all the plants. Sweet setup!
I've grown for seed a couple times and I wait until some of the bracts open up and I can see seeds that are mature looking. You'll know, but it took a bit longer than I expected the first time. It's always fun! I got a baby food jar of seeds off one plant last year. Got two of them in veg right now actually. Dark Star.

    Edit for spelling

speaking of growing for seed, i also have all the kosher kush plants now under 12/12 to make some f2's. i took clones from them all so i will make new moms from those when they root.  from the 4 plants 2 already are confirmed males, one is female and one who is a straggler is yet unknown (the short one). that last one was the last to sprout and it also needed help taking the husk of the seed off so it ended up behind the others, still i decided to keep it and see how it will develop.

kosher kush, these are also under a DIY "scoobysol 50" lol.

and in the main tent we got some staking action going on today. only two of the plants really needed it since they are close to the fan and were starting to grow at an angle from the wind, but i figured i might as well stake them all now.  btw garden Velcro rocks!

went ahead and transplanted three kosher kush clones in the empty space of the no-till. actually only 2 showed roots but i transplanted 3 since i didn't want to wait any longer. the third clone had but a wee tiny little root that just started, i tried to be as gentle as i can with it.

i know Yoda would frown but honestly even if it doesn't make it no big deal, not even sure it has enough room there, so i figured if its meant to be it will survive [IMG]

the kush is suppose to finish 1-3 weeks earlier, anyway lets see what happens!

today is also the first day the soil is getting in the optimal moister zone since i gave it the first watering and neem/kelp tea about a week ago. the instructions on the blumat sensor say between 50 and 120 is ideal so i think if i can keep it around 80millibar it should be good. all the sensors got adjusted to have a drop just hanging, which should keep the moister at the current level from now on.

Today my no-till got a 1st SST drench made from mung bean sprouts puree. still have some frozen cubes from when i first made it about two months ago and i want to finish that before i move on to my malted bran for making enzyme tea.
Also added a dose of TM-7 humic acid, which i will be adding once per month from now on.

also in the news: botanical tea! per coots advice i went ahead and gathered a a bit of each of the different kind of herbs i got growing in containers: rosemary, lavender, cilantro, sage, artemesia, and Spanish mint (thyme still too young to harvest). all chopped up fine, came to just over a cup and then added to 1/2 a gallon H2o. gonna let that sit for a couple days (no air stone) and then use it for my coconut water application.

  8. Scoobie the garden looks great man!
Hey I want to thank you for pointing me in the direction of that Blumat moisture meter. I love that thing! For the first time I have confidence that my 15 gal smarties are getting watered properly. I was not watering deeply enough and this device showed it perfectly, and showed the change clearly when I added another 3 quarts. I love it so much I think I'll eventually end up with one in each pot.
I didn't know they existed until I saw it in your thread, so thanks again!

  9. Hey buddy,

When you weren't watering deep enough, what side effects did you notice from your plants?
I'm in a 20g right now for the first time, and I fear that might be one of my problems!
I'm not really "fearing" lol, but I do think it's possible that I could be watering not deeply enough!
Thanks in advance for the input!

    Sc00by,

YEAH BABY!!! Such a superb regiment so far :)
Stoked to see how it goes for you brother

    P&P

  10. yeah those things are pretty cool! i used to use those cheepo three way meters, never trusted those things, lol! but im thinking of getting another one or maybe two to place in different spots in the bed so i can see if all the sensors are calibrated the same. for now i just move it every couple of days.

i think the biggest challenge is to water the soil evenly, but water likes to find the path of least resistance so its inevitable that eventually channels will be created where water will flow and thus avoid parts of the soil.  especially true in a fabric pot where the water can escape from anywhere...

if i was growing in 20g pots i would probably build a swick system (you take a container, fill it with good wicking aggregate like perlite of lava stone, fill that with water up to an inch below the wicking medium level and place your smartpot on top of that) this method really keeps the soil evenly moist since the water is wicking up through capillary action so no channels are created. and you'll be amazed at how much more water the plants will go through when you grow that way.
i think what happens is since the whole medium is moist the plant can send out more roots and its capacity for absorbing as well as growing, grows.

thats how i figure it  anyway [IMG]

  11. Slower growth mainly. Not progressing like I thought they should. They never showed signs of under watering. I noticed a difference in just a few days. They perked right up.

Thanks for the superb post brother.
And in looking around, I was thinking of either trying a swick setup once I harvest that pot, or either a blumat setup.
That's another reason I've got my eyes on this thread haha :)
So you know what?! I'm swicking it as soon as I harvest that pot! I don't really feel safe moving the 20g pot tho ya know?
I moved it once and the plants were wilted for a couple days after! So I've just been BARELY rotating it since!
And that sounds like some solid logic if you ask me. Thanks bro
Ok cool cool and thanks for the response man! My ladies haven't showed signs of under-watering either, but between two plants in a 20g pot, they only get a gallon of water every 7-10 days. Growth on one of my plants in that pot is VERY SLOW but one is normal in the same conditions, so i'm a little confused. Kinda just chalking it up to one strain being EXTREMELY sativa dominant.
Rather than doing anything to exacerbate any issues, I'm kinda just peeping on the plants, trying to listen to em you know.
It's A LOT easier to judge when you can lift the pots hahaha

    Thanks again gentlemen

  13. i was thinking you could probably combine the two. make a swick and stick a blumat in the perlite with a raised reservoir above. the blumat will regulate water going into the swick and make sure its always full.
blumat also make surface sensors that i think would be perfect for this.

    41DQ3IQNPFL.jpg

or you could setup an inverted bottle type deal, probably cheaper this way, maybe even more reliable.

day 10 of flower for the panama girls.
no noticeable praying after the SST yesterday but they do look a bit perkier today. i only made half a gallon of SST so i might have not had enough to properly drench the soil. still, everything looks good!

been also giving them alfalfa and kelp foliars, kelp for the tall plants and alfalfa on the shorter plants. once every other day or every 3 days is the plan, at least until i see flowers start to develop and then ill stop.

    peace!

    Hell yeah Sc00b,

I believe the process of the "come up" haha. Learning things in the simplest way first and building on that, so I'm def. gonna start with the swick and move on up to the blumats if everything goes according to planned. Hell I may not even need to the blue mats if the swick does it's duty!

And the lasses are still looking lovely! Keep an eye on the plants that you're spraying with Alfalfa.
It's said to inhibit flowering, so if this is the case, all of those that you're spraying with Alfalfa should flower a bit later!
This will be a GREAT chance to make that observation!

    Take care brother

  16. i think if you can setup a swick you will be content. its also less prone to fail.

re alfalfa: i THINK it can delay maturity but idk about inhibition. i know some people use it during the whole cycle.
not sure we will learn anything either way since the plants being sprayed with alfalfa are from a different mother then the ones sprayed with kelp [IMG] (though they are both panamas) so there might be some genetic differences to begin with.

    have a good one! [IMG]

Right on about that brother! I'm i'm will the simplicity of the swick system. Just never needed one before in smaller pots ya know?!
And delaying maturation is indeed a better choice of words!

    Take care bud

When I had my first bed, I ended up culling it because I screwed up. I didn't actually cull the garden till about a week later. Once I got the plants out and started taking the soil out, I was completely surprised to find a lot of moisture in the bottom center. They had smaller roots; 2 gallons perhaps? They couldn't suck up the water as fast as I was dumping it and that's what caused the slow growth and not so perky leaves.

A good rule of thumb us to water 1/10th the container size so 10 gallons per 100 gallons. That has worked very well for me. I also use a moisture meter but a cheapo one. It works ok so I use it to get an idea for the bottom area.

I have blumats to set up. I am using 1/2" hydro black tubing and there is an adapter that works. It's in an old thread somewhere else so I should look that up soon. They take the flexible hydro tubing and S curve it to each plant so one plant has the carrot on the left then the next has it in the right, repeat back and forth. Creates less kinks and easier to work with.

  19. blumat now offers a flexi 8mm line, the original 8mm is just a pain to use if you need to bend it and have it stay that way. i used a 6mm flexible tube made for autopots that is sold in the hydro shop around here.
what made you cull your first bed? i would be really frustrated if i had to redo mine now over again [IMG]
thanks for swinging by my garden!

Day 12 of flower. gave the girls their 1st coconut water feeding, alas i don't have fresh young coconuts yet, but luckily i could find some freeze dried organic.

I used the botanical tea i've made a couple days ago as the base for the coconut water.

girls are looking good, stretch SEEMS to have slowed down, which is surprising as i thought they would stretch until day 21 or so. maybe they are stretching their roots now.

also, i have been lowering the Neosol about an inch every day, its now about a foot above the canopy, so that might also be a factor even though these LEDs have pretty good penetration.

kosher clones getting adjusted, you can see on the left side i got 1 clone from the #4 kosher kush which hasn't shown me its sex yet, i might replace the bottom one with it if its a girl (the 3 i have now are the #3 clones)

i just hope that being in the same bed wont inhibit their growth from competing roots, but im hoping there is enough soil for everyone, time will tell!

thinking about dropping some seeds on 4/20 maybe a golden tiger for next round... might be a little early plus i dont have that much space. we shall see!

    peace![IMG][IMG][IMG]

  20. why did i have to cull it? lol

well, i was having problems with root rot in my hydro systems and i just gave up on it literally the day they announced a contest on the other forum i belonged to. The contest was for newbs and since i decided that i wasn't going to grow hydro anymore, i entered the contest doing an organic high brix 100 gallon bed. the thread got a lot of attention and i noticed how many views i was getting compared to the other contestants. i got pretty nervous with everyone watching.

So why i actually culled it, I got fungus gnats pretty bad and I bought some SNS 203 fungus gnat drench and applied it to the garden. I didn't turn off the lights and accidently got some water on a leaf. i think that the pesticide in the drench hurt the leaf somehow plus i was overwatering. So i listened to the advice given to me from the members of the forum without questioning it first. everyone said i had broadmites or root aphids. so i dumped a bunch of Imid on them and sprayed them down with the broad mite application on the Nuke Em bottle (organic orange scented contact killer). well the imid hurt my worms and ruined all the dirt i had just mixed while the Nuke Em 3x per day application had literally turned the leaves to a crisp. if you blew on them like a candle, the leaf would snap off it was so brittle. (I would not suggest using the high doses on the bottle for BM. everyone who has, fried their plants dead.)

everyone got mad at me when i told them what i had done and that is when i really found out what no till soil is all about: natural predators and IPM before you have an infestation. I never had any pests and ruined an entirely good garden which i had to replace because of the chemicals. I also was embarrassed because the whole forum was watching me and i screwed it all up. that's why i waited a week or so to go back and cull/tear down.

i did however make a lot of friends doing the contest and learned a lot about organics, high brix, and ways to boost plant immunity/IPM.
