Scientific Bongs?

  1. This is a repost but I got no replies, so I thought i would try here. So I know that bongs have been around for centuries, but i want to know, when did scientific bongs and percolators first appear? I cant find any info about it. I know that glass on glass joints originally came from lab equipment but i have no idea when it was incorperated into a bong. Who was the first to do this? Which came first, Glass on glass or percs? Any info you guys have I would love to hear! Cheers!

glass on glass came before percs.

Roor Germany is the granddaddy of scientific glass.  They were the first to start (or at least the ones to make mainstream) the use of scientific glass blowing techniques in making water pipes.  Roor popularized the glass on glass joint.  As for time frame, I think early 90's, their shop website says founded in 1995.

The first percs were most likely diffused downstems.  Prior to glass on glass joints people weren't making perc'd pieces.  I believe phx is one of the early companies that offered a perc'd tube with arm trees.

  5. All I can really add is that domes and tree percs are old, honeycombs are newer. I too, would like to know more about this.
