Saying +rep and actually giving rep

  1. Eh I dunno, maybe I'm just missing something and once in awhile it doesn't show up, but it seems to me lately that a few times I've gotten some newer people wanting to +rep me (I'm not like going all rep crazy here, I'm just bringing this up) and saying :+rep and all, but the rep never comes. I'm not gonna accuse if they're just publically trying to sound cool, or really aren't realizing that you can't add rep just by saying it.

Now I know how someone can rep you and it just isn't enough to effect your rep or whatever, hence like purple boxs or whatever I hear of once in awhile, but is there something else that would cause it to just not show up when it reps you? Or are some of the newer people (not that I'm trying to offend any of 'em...) just not realizing that you have to click on the scale, etc.. so if that's the case, maybe there could be a sticky somewhere explaining how it all works? (If there is and I somehow have missed it, I'm really sorry lol...)

  2. No, there's nothing else. People are just saying "+rep" and not following through.

There's no sticky on rep. However, now that we have the non-anonymous rep in place, we might make a sticky with a how-to and rep guidelines. :)

  3. Tight. It would be a nice little bonus to having the new rep update... and then maybe rep would be given out a little bit more consciously... though sometimes I wonder how many people actually read the stickies anyway  thanks RMJL.

  4. if i get repped and a grey bar shows up, what does that mean?

these are on positive comments from friendly people, but they are grey instead of green.

  5. LOL! I don't think they read the stickies. We have the rules posted in every forum and I know, from moderating, that not everyone reads them. :p

  6. As far as from what I've ever heard, it just means that somehow them repping you wasn't actually enough to effect your rep at all... but I've always been confused on the whole different colored bar issue.

Edit; in the RuneScape forums there's individual rules and stickies to be read for every forum too... forums were operational for around 3 years, and at any given time have ofer 6k users online at one time... last time I checked, the most read sticky in all of the forums had only been viewed about 300 times lol. No one reads stickies anymore... and they're so damn fun! *gets a sticky stuck to his shoe*

  7. Grey/purple....to me they look purple...

    :p

Anyway, that means that the person who repped you hasn't been here long enough or contibuted enough for their rep to count towards your total rep points.

  8. thanks RMJL

  9. when i give out rep is it still purple
    how can i find out
i dont think it is because no one has said anything

  10. + rep

  11. Ya I noticed that too Floydian- but sometimes it's actually them having to spread rep around or they've given too much out or they just plain forget.

I was 5 points away from my sixth bar and all these people were saying +rep and nothing came up in the comment box.

In my old forum my rep was maxed, and I'm still getting used to having so little. The new system is much different than there as well. This place was the first I've seen so many people say +rep in posts, it's just the way it is here though. It's only inevitable that people don't always follow through they just want to look like a nice guy. Sometimes the rep limiter gets in the way- but I usually say something if it does I don't say +rep and not leave rep or say why I can't.
