Save my clones!

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by BEEFQUAKE, May 21, 2019.

  1. This is my first attempt at cloning and it's not going great. I took the cuttings from lower branches, used clonex gel and stuck them into a cube made from peat. I'll admit I didn't cut extremely close to the main stem. The cubes seem to be moist constantly. They are inside a dome with humidity around 80% and 75 degrees F. The tray contains a small amount of water and I recently added some GH Rapid Start hoping it would help. They are under a single T5.

It's been 7 or 8 days and I noticed one of the cuttings drooping and dying so I decided to sacrifice it so I can figure out what's going on. I broke apart the cube and found no roots but the stem shows signs of roots attempting to grow (small bumps).

I have a feeling it's too moist, but I'm just not sure.

Any advice would really be appreciated.

  2. Noob here so grain of salt. But i love research. Anyways

Plants need c02. They deplete it so every once in a while give them fresh air if the dome is closed off...
Humidity is good but they have no roots for uptake so foliage feeding helps them get some water and a very little nutrients. Like 150 ppm when starting from 0
Peat retains alot of water so baby roots that are in it may drown if kept too moist.
I've seen alot of clones take about 2 weeks to root and until then plants looked half dead. So patience plays a part.
Over everything else, rooting is almost 50/50 chance.
    Goodluck bro

  3. Patience grasshopper. Give them time. I do not use rooting hormones and have had the same result as using it. Generally it takes about 10-14 days if there is water in the tray just give them a light spray of water over the tops and keep letting them do their thing
