Sativa and me ..rude awakening about my medicine

Discussion in 'Medical Marijuana Usage and Applications' started by HazelMoon, Nov 23, 2022.

  1. Man did I goof up when I first got certified. The first dispensary I went to had little descriptions about each strain and what it helps you with. I should have sat down with a pharmacist tho bc while the strains I got that I read about were mostly indica. At that time, Indica was knocking me out all the time and I would lose the whole day sleeping. So I would ask the dispo wellness advisers for strains that didn't sedate me like that. They suggested Sativa so I only used that during the day and indica at night, to sleep. It was great at first but then I started getting manic, agitated, anxious and have flights of fancy. It's such a head high, for me it really kicked the racing and intrusive thoughts into overdrive. I couldn't focus on it at all. And forget about the tolerance! I had awful withdrawal when I would have to take t breaks. I felt like an addict. Not that weed is addictive but Sativa was creating so much fantasy and delusions of grandeur that I was also high on that. Idk maybe I sound nuts but that's how it was.
I just switched to indica two days ago and noticed a huge difference. My mind is calmer now and I don't get stuck in fantasy, nor mania. Bipolar and Sativa, at least in my case, do not mix.
It's awesome to learn about this stuff and figure out what needs to be done. I spent all of 2021 in a living hell, due to tolerance and all of the above, now today I am still nice and high from yesterday's GG#4 RSO. This will be a nice holiday! Hope you are all well.

  2. I feel ya, sativas are no good for me either. That's why I only grow, Indica dominant hybrids 70/30, 80/20, and even 90/10.

  3. Same here. I have atril fib and can't take sativa, it speeds up my heart. Besides, I don't want to be bouncing off the walls. I just want to lay on the couch and binage watch my favorite show and eat pizza and Cheetos and drink cherry coke.

  9. Hey I hear ya! I love Blue Dream, it's one of my favorite strains. But yeah I think Sativa is great when you need energy, like when deep depression saps your energy or you have chronic fatigue syndrome. People who are busy all the time don't need to be sleepy or sedated which is why I avoided indica for those two years. I guess we are all different. I actually haven't had Blue Dream in awhile but I do remember it was kind of mellow. I always felt really happy on it.

  10. Never heard of acupoco, is that a Sativa? I love the name. Sounds like it works really well for you.

  11. Yes! That's what I experienced too, that it sped up my heart. I would feel it beating. And then I started kinda twitching when sitting or laying down... the leg would twitch. It did help my depression for awhile when I didn't have any other antidepressants but the mania was just too much. When I am as manic as I can get, I can't do anything. I could have all these creative ideas and start to write something, only to abandon it in less than 5 minutes and get lost in my head lol. I'm still experiencing mania but it's not as bad as it was. I feel like I'm detoxing or something. It's weird lol.

  13. No I haven’t. A lot of the Delta 8 is named but doesn’t mention the strain. You can look up thriveil.com and they have the strains I have access to. Harrisburg Recreational menu. They have Blueberry and other indices and sativas and a lot of hybrids. Cannabis isn’t legal Federally yet so they have to get their supply from Illinois growers. I had a hunch that California growers have the best strains.

  14. Feeling nice and toasty on some Bio Jesus I just vaped. Hadn't vaped in awhile. Sativa used to give me tension headaches, not painful ones as not all headaches are painful, they just tense your head up. I would smoke or vape and the high went only so far and then stopped. It was like there was a helmet on my head and the helmet wouldn't let the high out. Maybe that sounds confusing but I didn't smoke for awhile bc of it, just used edibles. Feels good to get high off of bud again!!! :D

  15. i dont have the helmet , mine is like standing under a helicopter with the wush wush sounds they get quite painful , i found that bright lights cause the majority of the issue,
i was running led lights in my tent when i realized that even with photo lense in my tri focal glasses hahahah that every time i spend time in there pampering the girls , i love girls hahaha anyway i was good until i got back into the reg light of a room , i would get dizzy , but one day i was cleaning a bit and spent a while in there, tent cleaning and took a bucket of water right out the house and when i opened the door and that sun got a direct hit on me i collapsed , so long story very short i do have a brain believe it or not lol but i have damage again from life .
so i went back to my 400 watt HID lighting which in turn took a lot of heat out my tent and i could also hook a cool tube to the cool tube , i still had slight head aches but nothing compared to the LED lights, when i work outside in the sun and about 30 min out there the choppers come , they claim it ptsd but i dont care for labels and have enough in my life to fall for the label life , so i call it one to many bumps on the noggun. i do ok until i come back into the house, i have to stay on my porch under a ceiling fan for about 30 min a thump my feral cat upside her head until i can come back in , with bloody arms and teeth marks all up my arms hahaha that cat is quick hahah
it alright for her to chase and bite her tail , but im not allowed to hahahah

Haha your cat sounds like a character! I've had some wild cats in my life. I love cats, they are one of my animal totems lol. I have a slightly feral cat myself. She used to have a home, had a microchip and everything. But her owners moved and left her behind. I hate when people do that. So she wandered around and there was so much noise bc it was 2020 and they were dropping fireworks all the time. So she was a nervous wreck from all the noise. My sister was feeding her and we were trying to find her a home but I finally took her. She is very sweet, will lay on me, purr and let me pet her, but after awhile she will grab your hand and try to bite it. I'm sure part of it is playfulness, but she does have anxiety. I wish there were weed for cats. Catnip ain't weed, it's crack lol, makes them nuts!!!
Wow that sounds like quite an ordeal! So glad you survived it! Who knew lights could do something like that? So many of us grew up feeling comforted and happy with lights. But yeah certain kinds... gotta watch. I can't deal with strobe lights. I used to love them but now they bother me. I hear ya on the PTSD label... sometimes labels are thrown around too easily. Everything has its layers you know?
Well I just got back from the dispo and am coasting to some relaxing Christmas music. But it's starting to sound like musaac so I'm gonna put on the blues. Or the Dead. :D

Hazelmoon, I understand pretty well what you've experienced. I know of those things that you spoke about - those weird head spaces that can show up when you definitely don't need them.

I have been away from weed for many years. Then I got a medical card and happily trotted down to the dispensary that is less than a mile away. I asked the saleslady for something that wouldn't "make me paralyzed". I was thinking "paranoia" not "couch lock". She probably thought I was talking about couch lock. So she was leaning towards sativa when I would probably do better with indica.
Anyway...Long story short, she led me to 3 different hybrids of varying strength. Generally, I was very cautious but later in the first week, I took 4 big hits of "Cold Ice", a 17% THC hybrid. I went deep into my own head, too far to be comfortable. I really dislike being too blasted. It's just too disorienting and with a dash of PTSD thrown in, I couldn't wait to come down.
After a 2nd similar event a week later, I decided to look up strains that don't cause paranoia. I found "Dosido" at my local dispensary, an indica that's about 20% THC. Man, I loved that sh*t. It was mellow, smooth and didn't put me anywhere near an uncomfortable mental space.
My conclusion? I'm an indica guy. That doesn't mean I won't smoke up my potent hybrids - it just means I'll approach them with caution.
Shoot, I just smoked a hit of Pirate's Breath" which is a hybrid at around 22% THC. I'm doing fine except the sativa in it has me being a motormouth. (as can be seen by this wordy post!)

I would humbly suggest trying some Indica or at least Indica dominant strains. Good luck with your experiences!

  18. That's all I grow, for precisely those reasons. Got some sweet zenzations from sweet seeds going now, got about 2 weeks or so left on em. It's a cross between zkittlez and grape ape, 70/30 indica dominant.

  20. Yep! Sounds about right. I have nothing but indica in this house now, no hybrids.
Trouble is I am still manic... not as bad as I was but... probably need to change my meds but that's all I can say here. Today I took about half a teaspoon of GG#4 AVB, cooked it up in soup, and it's still got me in a nice place. My dispo pharmacist told me "less is more" so I'm trying to remember that bc tolerance came around the corner after doing just one bong rip after vaping all day and coasting on my RSO. Good thing indica lowers tolerance but you still can get it if you take too much THC.
Best of luck with your journey! Thanks for the reply. :love-m3j:
