What can I put my sandwich fillings on that is not loaded with chemical preservatives? I've found one frozen bread that is close to organic (not certified) but the slices are small and the price is high. Any alternative to commercial bread available at a supermarket? Or any specific brand of bread at the supermarket that you buy?
You can always opt for a fresh baguette from the bakery (rarely do they ever have those nasty additives). Baking your own is always a good option, too. Bread's supposed to go stale after a few days because that's how fresh food works. Traditionally, stale bread is put to a lot of use in cooking. Like French toast or homemade croutons, oui oui.
So an update I ended up making homemade bread, after 2 tries third time was the charm, came out crispy outside and perfectly soft and cooked through on the inside, and just big enough to be used for sandwich bread, which I will do tonight for dinner. Sublime.
If you let it ferment in the fridge for 2 days it will slow down the fermentation process , but it will taste and smell a whole lot better.
Well once you choose a bread, hummus is a great spread for sandwiches. I like tomato cucumbers spinach and hummus when I am looking for a sandwich. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Freshly baked bread (that morning) from the small local bakery is the go! Put a crap load of Strawberry or Raspberry Jam on it and some Peanut Butter mmmmmmmmmm! I only ever use butter/margarine on a sandwich if it is being toasted! Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Alvarado street bakery bread is pretty good. I think it originates in Cali, but I get it at the supermarket in CT. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
