SAME STRAIN DIFFERENT TERPENES?

Discussion in 'Cannabis Consumption Q&A & Tips' started by P-dog, Dec 31, 2019.

  1. Hi guys!!!

Can the same strain have way different terpene levels because of the way it’s grown or if it is a different phenotype or whatever?

Also...I think that stains that have too much Limonene make my nervous and have weed panic attacks. I may be wrong. Anyone know about this?
I’m scared that my favorite strain might not be manageable if I get a different batch that was grown differently and has too much limonene or other panic inducing terpenes. I love White Widow, btw. It’s my favorite of all time! It’s super relaxing and euphoric at the same time and doesn’t give my paranoia or anxiety!!! Passiflora is the only top-shelf brand-name lab tested company that is doing it out here in LA. They do Berry White also.

  2. Grow your own. Find a phenotype of the strain you like. Clone it and grow more.

Every strain has different phenotypes and depending on how the plant is grown (indoor/outdoor), the plant can drastically increase or decrease certain terpene profiles. Even in the same phenotype.

  3. Strains can def have different terpine levels based off how well they were grown. Two clones could be grown by different growers and one grown well could have a higher % of terpines compared to the other that was grown badly. Because they are clones, they will share the same genes meaning same terpine profile but how well you grow it will determine how prominent the terpines are. As far as seeds, the terpines can change based off phenotype. For example if you have two seeds from the same parents, one seed could show more of its fathers genetics thus having more terpines based on the father while the other seed could have more genes stabilized from the mother thus having more terpines from the mother.

  4. if you grow two clone in different light spectrum at the end will have different terpene profile.

  5. Is this the same flavor and smell and taste? Only different strengths so to say?

Or different light spectrums could cause completely different terpenes within the same cloned plants?

  6. So are you guys saying the terpenes can affect the type of high you get? Anyone have experience with this? Does anyone have information the limonene issue i mentioned? I remember one time a budtender told me that if a strain has less limonene, it might be better for anxiety. That’s weird because I read that limonene actually is supposed to get rid of anxiety. But I also read it can give you energy, etc... so maybe it’s true? I don’t take sativas well at all except White Widow, but actually someone told me it’s actually an Indica? Again, it’s prob how they grow it and how the high feels to the grower.... they told me that’s how they label it.... by the feeling they get, not so much genetics. A lead grower at THC design told me that. He said every strain is a hybrid, it just depends how each grow makes u feel whether it’s labeled as Indica or sativa dominant.

Yes so different strains and their terpines are what make them indica or sativa or hybrids. Generally indica strains will have a higher % of the terpine Myrcine which is what gives the sedative effects while sativas can have more limonene in them. Now with all the breeding going on people have been able to create strains with different mixtures of terpines making them mostly hybrid. I do agree you should try the strain out just to make sure the ratio of terpines make you feel how you want to feel. Strains with more myrcine or linalool might be better for you to help combat the anxiety feeling you are getting from the higher sativa based terpines. From what i understand is that yes thc does get you high but what people are learning is that these terpines may be what give your high specific feelings like happy, calm, energized etc. Thats why when some people consume weed vapes that are pure thc distillate, they dont get the same high as smoking actual flower that contains terpines. Terpines have been used for awhile in aromatherapy by vaporizing these essential oils in the air to help us breathe them in and calm us or give us certain feelings. People are studying this interaction or combination of both thc or cbd mixed with terpines giving people more effects than just thc or cbd alone. They call it the entourage effect and are studying it to learn more on how the cannabis plant can be used as a medicine instead of creating lab born thc or cbd with no terpines.
