Sales Tax On a Donation ???

Discussion in 'Cannabis News & Industry Updates' started by evilgnome, Aug 25, 2012.

  1. Anybody go to any Dispensaries that charge tax???
    How Can You Tax a Donation???

    Peace...

  2. Donation? I consider most dispensaries closer to armed robbery than donations.

  3. sales tax in dispensaries is such bullshit, even worse is dispensaries that charge it claim they do it to be "more legit", ya right.

  4. Hell I'm not bitching
    I love the fact that I live in a time where I can walk to a dispensary & get some sweet herb just as easy as buying a beer
    I'm in my 40s & didn't think I'd ever see that

    We all know they make $$$
    But operate as Non-Profits & You're Not Buying the MJ You're Donating to Help Cover The Cost of Growing It

    But by charging "Sales Tax" wouldn't they be implying they were "Selling" it
    'Cause as far as I know there's not a Donation Tax / At least not yet

    Image going
    I want to donate $20 to the starving childrens fund
    &
    Them saying that'll be $21.78 with donation tax
    LOL

    "Skywalker"

    If you grow your own
    Then yeah

    But if you buy from street dealers
    Then it's all good / I don't really mind dispensary prices

    I find the quality quantity & prices acceptable / High But Acceptable
    {I know people on both sides Growers & Dispensary owners & yeah there's one hell of a mark up / Non-Profit My Ass / LOL / But hey everyone has to make a buck so it's all good}
    It's not like you would get a better deal on the street or have the choice of like 30 - 40+ different kinds & the luxury to take the time to check things out

    So It Be All Good With Me

  6. It is bullshit

    You only charge Sales Tax on Shit you SELL
    There's No Donation Tax

    A 'Non-Profit" is Exempt from Paying Taxes

    I would think it's something that could get them busted more than make them more legit

    Just My Stoned 2 Cents

  7. I have never seen a donation tax.

  8. Only one I can think of that I've been to is by like homeland or nuevo

  9. I've only been to a few that charge sales tax
    {In SoCal / LA / Long Beach area}
    &
    All of the one's that do/did were ones that accepted ATM/Credit cards

    Non-Profit Organizations are Tax Exempt ~ No Sales / No Taxes
    &
    There's No "Donation Tax"

    So why are they charging Sales Tax & Where Is It Going???

    I don't want to cause shit for an industry that I support & already has enough problem to deal with
    But Cum On

    I Call Shenanigans

    Attached Files:

  10. Ive been to 6 dispensaries or so. None of them taxed.

  11. In six months I have never paid sales tax.

  12. Must be different in cali, but dispensaries here in colorado are classified as businesses. if they don't pay their taxes to the city, they lose their business license, simple as that. the majority of dispensaries here charge sales tax. the ones that don't, have it calculated into their prices, so you're not really gaining anything (except not getting a handful of change).

  13. I've seen a few in sacramento charging tax. I don't go back to them

  14. I've had my rec for like 9 years now & I've only been to a few that charged tax

    I just went to one I hadn't been to in a while that did & it got me thinking

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    In CA dispensaries operate as non-profits
    They're not selling MJ
    The money you're paying is a donation to help cover cost of growing etc.
    Call it what you will / It's all good with me
    What I'm saying is how can they {the few that do} charge tax be it city county or state on a donation
    Wouldn't charging a tax imply a sale/profit was made making it illegal {at least in CA}
