Safe to inhal smoke through plastic?

Discussion in 'Beginner Cannabis Consumption & Tips' started by Delluhsion, Aug 26, 2012.

  1. So the "bowl" or so to speak is a metal piece but the part I'll be inhaling the smoke from is plastic. Is this safe or not?

  2. Ya its totally safe as long as the fire from the lighter doesn't directly touch any plastic

  3. How sure are you? If I can find a metal tube to inhale from i'd definitely will, but I just want to be sure if plastic is a decent alternate. Im very frisky on these types of things, I stopped using foil for obvious reasons.

  4. It's fine, lots of pipes are like that.

Ya no worries at all .. as long as the fire isn't touching the plastic it won't melt ..from what ur saying I'm thinking its a home made bong using a bottle am I correct . With a metal bowl ?

  6. Honestly, I found my mouth piece for my trumpet that I used in 8th grade and realized it can be perfect for a bowl! Yes, Im going to be using a it on a apple pipe lol... I was going to just use a plastic pen tube to inhale from with the mouth piece on top as a bowl. Thanks for the advice :)

  7. Not worth the risk man

Does the plastic get hot? If it does, it can be potentially fatal!

Fatal alveolar haemorrhage following a "bang" of cannabis (abst – 2011)
[Fatal alveolar haemorrhage following a "bang... [Rev Mal Respir. 2011] - PubMed - NCBI

    Bang = bong

The new methods of cannabis consumption (home made water pipe or "bang") may be responsible for fatal respiratory complications.

New :)laughing:) methods of using cannabis may kill you.

We present a case, with fatal outcome, of a man of 19 years with no previous history other than an addiction to cannabis using "bang".

Here we have a case of a cannabis using, but otherwise healthy young man dying.

He was admitted to intensive care with acute dyspnoea.

He was admitted to the ICU with severe trouble breathing.

A CT scan showed bilateral, diffuse alveolar shadowing.

His lungs looked "cloudy" in a CT scan.

He was anaemic with an Hb of 9.3g/l. Bronchoalveolar lavage revealed massive alveolar haemorrhage.

He was anemic and his lungs were filling with blood.

Investigations for infection and immunological disorder were negative and toxicology was negative except for cannabis.

We found no infections and he was OK except for cannabis use.

Antibiotic treatment was given and favourable progress allowed early discharge.

We pumped him full of antibiotic, he started getting better, so we sent him home.

Death occurred 15 days later due to alveolar haemorrhage following a further "bang" of cannabis.

He was dead 15 days later due to hemorrhaging in his lungs after smoking more cannabis.

    Autopsy showed toxic alveolar haemorrhage.

Autopsy showed his lungs were filled with blood from the hemorrhaging.

The probable mechanism is pulmonary damage due to acid anhydrides released by the incomplete combustion of cannabis in contact with plastic.

The way his lungs were damaged was likely due to acids released by hot cannabis touching the plastic and releasing the fumes.

These acids have a double effect on the lungs: a direct toxicity with severe inflammation of the mucosa leading to alveolar haemorrhage and subsequently the acid anhydrides may lead to the syndrome of intra-alveolar haemorrhage and anaemia described in occupational lung diseases by Herbert in Oxford in 1979.

The fumes are directly poisonous burning the lungs and causing hemorrhaging and anemia. A doctor Herbert did a paper on it.

It manifests itself by haemoptysis and intravascular haemolysis.

People who have this are coughing up blood and the blood in their veins is breaking down.

We draw attention to the extremely serious potential consequences of new methods of using cannabis, particularly the use of "bang" in homemade plastic materials.

This case freaked us out because there is a big potential for kids to make dangerous bongs using plastics!

    I wouldn't use plastic!

    Granny

  9. Yeah bro, this^

Just buy a cheap bong for like 10 bucks

  10. dont risk it OP just use an apple for now!
