Feb. 8 (UPI) -- An actor who visited schools dressed up as the famous McGruff the Crime Dog was sentenced to 16 years in prison after police seized 1,000 marijuana plants, 27 weapons and 9,000 rounds of ammunition from his house.

John Morales was arrested in 2011 after Galveston, Texas, police pulled him over for speeding and found plans for two indoor pot-growing operations sitting on his front passenger seat.
When they got to his home, they found marijuana plants and weapons.

Morales, 41, pleaded guilty, but insisted he was nonviolent.

“Everything I read about you makes you seem like a scary person," said District Judge Vanessa Gilmore during sentencing.

McGruff the Crime Dog was an animated character created in the 1980s to spread crime awareness. Actors dressed up as the crime-fighting pooch to visit schools and film commercials to promote crime awareness.

Never have ANY incriminating evidence out in the open while driving!  Never speed! Don't hotbox in your car!  It is just asking for trouble!  If those papers had been stashed away, he could have accepted the ticket (with the appropriate acting sheepish, embarrassed and meek) and driven away! But the papers caught the cop's eye and he HAD to see what they were!

1000 plants is a bit more than personal use, but that just means he's chasing the "American dream" and the $$$!  But I do feel that was a bit of "over-kill" on the guns and ammo! If they were mostly collector's items, flintlocks and old 6-shooters, it's one thing. If they were mostly modern combat weapons, it could be a whole 'nother thing. But I don't know the facts on the weapons, so I have only the numbers to go on, but 9000 rounds of ammo sure sounds like he was ready on a war with someone.

  2. Dude had a rocket launcher

You dont just have a rocket launcher lol

Wonder how long he was a double agent for, all those years telling kids about crime, all while he was amassing an armory and growing enough bud to supply Willie Nelson for maybe a week :)p)

  3. That's just awesome....and crazy

  4. Oh no, say it ain't so Joe.  Time to drag DEA and ONDCP back in front of congress to explain where their public awareness and prevention dollars are going.

  5. Seems like, McGruff the crime dog, ain't too smart!

Sixteen years for a non-violent offense is ridiculous though.

People committing MURDER and RAPE get less time.

  6.
The rocket launcher might have had something to do with that

  7. I am sure it did not help.

It may be legal to own a rocket launcher if you pay a $200.00 tax to the ATF.

That's how it works with full-auto legal machine guns.

  8. poor nancy reagan and her bullshit just say no ! LOL HA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. I posted this a few days ago. Pretty ignorant way to go down. C'mon McGruff he should have just kept the suit in his car at all times.

  10. holy shit

And it REALLY cost her! Ronnie, as you may remember died of Alzheimer's.  It is a pretty sure bet that he was on the (then) new drug Aricept for it. And good old THC does this-

    Marijuana May Slow Alzheimer's      (news - 2006)   http://www.webmd.com/alzheimers/news/20061006/marijuana-may-slow-alzheimers

“THC blocks an enzyme called acetylcholinesterase, which speeds the formation of amyloid plaque in the brains of people with Alzheimer's disease. The Alzheimer's drugs Aricept and Cognex work by blocking acetylcholinesterase. When tested at DOUBLE the concentration of THC, Aricept blocked plaque formation only 22% as well as THC, and Cognex blocked plaque formation only 7% as well as THC.”

If Nancy had been saying "Just say YES!" Her husband might have been with her longer, physically and mentally.

Sometimes life dishes out some real irony!

  12. Why did they search his car and what did the plans say "Marijuana grow room plans?"

This is why I tell people to put incriminating shit in their trunk.

Though I believe in marijuana legalization I am worried about him and all those weapons? Is he just a regular American with guns or is he a violent criminal or a criminal that helps others do violence?

If he is dangerous or committing other crimes I am willing to look the other way and not advocate for this guy's release.

  13. Psh, deceptive post.  Had me thinking the original "TAKE A BITE OUT OF CRIME" McGruff voice actor was arrested, which would be sheer irony.

But this is just some guy that dressed up as McGruff, so whatever..

  14. Honestly...good! Fuck him for being ac hypocrite!

  15. Am I the only one who finds humor in this? Some guy who dresses up like a dog is pretty much a one man drug cartel.

  16. if igot poped with a fucking rocket launcher i would be like " i bought it incase zombies rise up sir"
